In 2020, I joined a cryptocurrency community called SEEDS based on ideas of using crypto for sustainability, food security, and permaculture regeneration. That was my first experience with regenerative finance (ReFi), even before I knew that such a term existed.
What I like about ReFi is the case of using crypto for something else and more important for the planet than just earning money and capital. I am not against people using crypto to earn money and enrich themselves. Crypto is one of the methods for reducing poverty and increasing wealth worldwide. So the nice thing is that cryptocurrencies, communities, and initiatives aim for post-material, non-economic and regenerative goals.
One can say that ReFi is a decentralized green post-capitalist economy in practice. It is also a way to disprove and go against critics of crypto who often argue that crypto is bad for the climate. After all, the main meaning of ReFi is to regenerate things and thereby use cryptos and blockchains for a regenerative planet and humanity.
For more information, check out and follow the ReFi DAO blog via substack. I am also writing a blog called ESGCrypto.
