The Bank for International Settlements is famous as "the mother of central banks" and today, 11 nations have adopted central bank digital currencies CBDCs.
In 2023, BIS will be experimenting with central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) via its research and development arm and will launch a new project to monitor stablecoins.
The bank added that its work schedule for the year ahead also includes "Project Pyxtrial," which it described as a new experiment being launched by the London branch of the BIS Innovation Hub to enable the "systemic monitoring of stablecoins."
This development reflects the interests and priorities of central banks and the G20 countries' program to improve cross-border payments. Thereby it remains to be seen what "Operation Pyxtrial" will result.
