An unlucky Uniswap user was hit with gas fees costing $39,617.28 for a single transaction on Tuesday. Even for a whale that kind of fee has to hurt, if only in the form of damaged pride.

Andrew Redden chief technology officer of crypto subscription tools company Groundhog Network was first to flag the odd transaction in a Tweet.
Gas prices are high, but this was not someone caught out by a sudden spike. Instead it seems that finger trouble is the most likely cause. It looks like the investor attempted to change the gas price, either from 500 gwei to 801 gwei, or vice versa, but instead entered 500,801 gwei.
That resulted in a fee of 24.95 Ether, worth an eye watering $39,617.28 at the time the transaction was made. A fee of around one third of the payer's portfolio at that wallet address.
Still, at least the transaction was not delayed.
