CRYPTO MINING SOFT-SCAMS ON EBAY??

By 8wordfish | Cryptoshield | 2 Apr 2020

So I was bored at work, not so busy with this COVID-19 no walk-in customers.. luckily a friend asked if I can search for a nice laptop for her on ebay. I agreed.

While going through some offers; scrolling up and down, this ad keep popping up on suggested items/services( Buy mining contract BTC,DASH,ETH, XRP) for only $ 9.99.)

I was like, this cant be possible; on ebay crypto scams as well? So I thouth I will spend a $10 from the money I was given to buy a laptop. This $10 dollar can make me rich! I know rght!!?

One of the ad on eBay

Best part is that you pay through Ebay, the whole process is handled by and through Ebay. Then after 10minutes, I received an email from the seller, asking for my ID, for verification purposes, to this point I was like this looks very official. And I was fine with that.

Order confirmation e-mail

Then I was asked for my chosen coin wallet. I Created a ‘quickie’ ETH wallet and sent it. (did not want to send the wallet I store my real coins hehehhe!)So I was waiting to receive my cryptos.

Three hours later, I received an email notification that I received my first ETH coins! WOW!

It’s a total of 0.026 ETH, so I jumped to cex.o to see how much that is; to my surprise it was only an equivalent of $4!!?? WHY? HOW? I spent $9.99 to get a $5?? How stupid am I?? I am super mad now!! This is cheating? I got lied to? Why on earth would you spend 10 dollars to get a 5 dollars?

So I decided to send an email to the seller, I was like Look, this is not good enough! I spent 10$ to get 4$? Nooooo!

No. You are soft scam! you receive my $10, you return $5. If you know its not profitable, why sell in the first place. In my understanding you are not even mining... One should sell something that has value to what they are paying for.

You are a soft scam!

See response from the seller below:

Please, do research on eBay:

https://www.ebay.com/b/Virtual-Currency-Mining-Contracts/179172/bn_1641599

and you will see that I'm telling the truth.

Thank you in advance.

To this point I was sure I lost my $5!

Well to my thinking; this seller don’t even have what he claim to have mining equipment. Because If otherwise had I tried to purchase ETH on CEX.IO with my $10, I would get ~ 0.063 ETH. On the ebay mining contract I received 0.028 ETH. It doesn’t make sense or add-up!

I am sure the targeted victims here are the people who are in an entry level into crypto. Kind of person you tell its okay to spend $100 to mine $60 equivalent of BTC and they agree to that. Huh!!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With just a simple basic math; why burn my PC/GPU, electricity plus time if there’s a simpler way? Advertise the contract for 10$ on ebay, One customer purchases the contract for that exact 10$ and pays through paypal. In that case paypal deducts 1$. Ebay deducts 1$ I remain with 8$. Then I go to cex.io, I purchace 0.030 ETH for a cost of 4$. 4 hours later I send it to the customer. I keep almost 4$. It’s a beautiful day huh?!!

If I can do this to 10 or 20 people everyday… I’m sure in June you will all see my selfies on instgram I am in Dubai taking my holidays. In a 5 star Hotel. Singing YOLO!!!

Below, is the screenshot of cex.io exchange showing how much ETH a $9.99 can buy. Wow! 0.0628ETH !!

cex.o buy/sell page showing what you can get with a $9.99

The reason I call this a soft scam, is because they use a legit eBay system to cheat people. Then end of the day, they return half of what you spent purchasing the false contract.

Then I ask myself; If I had a mining rig/pc that makes/mines equivalent of $10 per day. Would I rent it to someone else or I would just mine for myself? Yes, II’d keep it for myself! Is that mean? Not to me!

Please feel free to share your opinion or criticize. But I'd like this to be of help to someone out there.

But for me this was small ‘educational-research’ that cost me a $5! Well it’s a $5 because $5 dollar was returned.
