What’s your exit strategy?

By cryotosensei | CryptoSensei | 26 Aug 2022

Was wondering about how crypto investors formulate their exit strategy and penned the following post on r/cryptocurrency:

As the famous saying goes, “if you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Having an exit strategy is paramount when we invest in the crypto space. Fixing action plans beforehand helps to still the nerves when shit happens because all we have to do is to execute them.

This means that some of us regularly visit GitHub to determine if the coins we are holding belong to lively communities or dead towns. Others know that they should ditch their bags when they see genuine supporters being bombarded with downvotes and negative remarks by the developers on Discord and Telegram. Yet others examine the tokenomics of their coins and decisively cut their losses when they see that their coins are unlikely to attain ATH again.

What is your exit strategy? And do you have a re-entry strategy?

Here are some useful responses!

  • I only want to get out when I leave the critical mass to leave my job behind and to never see one again
  • The moment I hit 1.5x my total investment, I’m out. I will then properly DCA back in on a few select coins
  • Leave all my crypto to my kids. I’m trying to build generational wealth so that my children can reach greater heights than I was able to
  • 25% will be sold at a certain price while the remainder will be stacked for the foreseeable future.
  • No exit strategy. This space is far too young and has not even scratched the surface of its potential. Only when we see real market saturation will I consider exiting
  • As I DCA in right now, I will DCA out in the next bull run
  • Exit in year 2025 after the next BTC halving event in 2024
  • I have price targets for the cryptocurrencies I hope to profit from. Usually prices spike during the bull runs after BTC halving events, so I’m accumulating them for the time being first
  • Will try and sell all coins at the peak of the next bull run. Then I will buy them back later
  • Sell 50% of my total on the way up to the next bull run but I won’t fully exit from a project that I firmly believe in
  • I intend to just periodically cash out once I hit certain portfolio milestones (100k, 200k, 300k etc)

Interestingly, these responses are as diverse as day and night, which goes to show that the strategy that works for you BEST is the one that takes into account your financial situation, idiosyncrasies and risk appetite!
