For some inexplicable reason, I didn’t sleep well last night, so I wasn’t my usual energetic self today. But something happened that managed to perk me up.

It was Moons Distribution Day on r/cryptocurrency.

What are Moons, I hear you ask?

Well, let me fill you in. Moons is the cryptocurrency distributed by a sub called r/cryptocurrency on Reddit. It has been around for 30 months, which demonstrates the developers’ commitment towards their project. Although Moons can only be used for tipping other users on the sub, I’m cautiously optimistic about its potential because they were recently migrated onto Arbitrum Nova, a Layer 2 ETH scaling solution. Being on the mainnet was impetus for it to be listed on MEXC and gate.io and catalysed its rather impressive price action. Just a few weeks ago, there was a flurry of activity on the sub in regards to how Moons had soared to 16 cents. Right now, each moon is worth about 13.5 cents. R/cryptocurrency is a dynamic community with 5.4 million users, so I think given its massive reach, moons will Moon.

So, the million dollar question is: how many moons did I get this month? 

A grand total of 973 moons. This was my biggest haul to date. I used to sell all my moons to obtain fiat previously, so I was slapped with a penalty that disabled me from receiving the maximum amount of moons I earned in subsequent months. Seems like I’m slowly but surely crawling my way out of the penalty hole I dug myself into. For context, I received only 210 moons last month, so believe me when I saw that I was over the moon when I saw my result today. It was the only thing other than coffee that kept me functioning today. 

To be honest, I’m also not sure what I did differently to garner so many moons this month, so I don’t have a tried-and-tested formula for you should you start to broaden your writing horizons. After all, I netted about $130 this month, which is like ten months of my Publish0x earnings. (Not that I’m going anywhere. You guys won’t be rid of me so fast!)

But after shitposting on r/cryptocurrency for six months, I guess I have developed a routine in regards to shitposting. I don’t scroll through every post, trying to write a standout funny comment that will gather me upvotes. I do continue to express thanks to other posters for sharing nuggets of information that I appreciate. Good manners literally pay, haha. Sometimes I focus my mind on a particular theme like Japanese words or Crypto Gamblers Anonymous and craft a question on the Daily Discussion based on it. Don’t worry if this sounds like Greek to you. I will consolidate my questions and post them here soon enough, haha. 

The disadvantage of accumulating moons is that while swapping them to ETH seems easy enough, I am hesitant about the process of converting Arbitrum Nova ETH to ETH on the blockchain. So, it appears that this conversion process will take about eight days, which is another reason why I am hesitant to sell my moons these days. Guess I’m waiting for large exchanges like Kraken or Kucoin to list moons so that the selling process won’t be so complicated? Only time will tell.

In any case, I feel quite happy and empowered that my writing efforts on R/cryptocurrency and Publish0x are legitimate and bring me a certain amount of money. Maybe it isn’t as glamorous as having my byline on a renowned publication but writing is writing, regardless of the reach of my audience. I post something and get paid for it. I could strategise more about upscaling my efforts, but I have come a long way since I started writing. So I’m proud to cultivate this writing side hustle.
