Which of the following two camps do you belong to?
Do you just automate your DCA on a particular day and then just forget about it, preferring not to clutter your mind with chart analysis? Do you have a laissez-faire approach towards taking profits and just cash out as and when you feel like it?
Or do you examine the charts and find the best timing to DCA your money manually, trying to catch the dip where crypto prices fall at least 5% below their previous values? Do you ladder out systematically, making sure that you only cash out a certain percentage so that you will have skin in the game?
If the former speaks to you, you are likely to be a satisficer. How do you tell yourself to be okay with not expending the effort to maximise your profits?
If the latter resonates with you, you are probably a maximiser. How do you find the energy to stay on top of things and optimise your moves?
So I posted the above writing on r/cryptocurrency. Didn’t receive many responses to it this time round but one thing struck me: some respondents were maximiser-turned-satisficers. They rationalised that the crypto market behaves irrationally in the first place. What’s more, it seems to be susceptible to market manipulation by larger-than-life personalities who can swing the market with a tweet.
As a satisficer myself, I used to think that maximisers who seek perfection in all aspects of their lives will not know how to let go and adjust their expectations lower. But it appears that some maximisers are able to tweak their mindset when it comes to investing in crypto. Human habits die hard, but the wonderful brain can reset our behavioural patterns, I thought.
Now, are you a maximiser or satisficer?
