Calling for New Names for the Fear and Greed Index

By diaperfinancingfund | CryptoSensei | 11 May 2022

I don’t think it’s an exaggeration to say that we are living through unprecedented times. Right now, we are watching the collapse of the LUNA/UST ecosystem quite helplessly. All eyes are on Do Kwon to see how he will salvage the situation. Suicide hotlines are pinned at the top of subreddit r/terraluna; some people have lost their life savings and are contemplating the unthinkable.

I hope you are not in dire straits. Or you may not be the kind of person who will appreciate this kind of humour in these stressful times. Because what I’m going to post here today is an attempt at easing the tension and perhaps bringing a chuckle to your weary face.

It all started when I commented on r/cryptocurrency that I feel the name of the index isn’t accurate anymore. I need more powerful adjectives to describe my fear. *spine-chilling, petrified, hysterical* for instance.

One reader immediately wrote “extreme butthole-clenching index”, which made me laugh out loud for the first time this bearish market had descended upon us.

So, I decided to take it one step further and posed this question on the forum: The fear & greed index seems inadequate to describe current times. What would you rename it as?

Let me present to you the witty responses I received. Enjoy!

  • the falling-knife-cut-depth matrix
  • The Wile E. Coyote Index
  • Peasants Sentiment Value
  • blood quotient
  • We’re all fucked
  • Very stable. Very cool.
  • Forex trading week
  • Just another Tuesday
  • Wild Wild West
