Any English teacher worth his or her salt will have preached the importance of PAC (Purpose, Audience and Context) to his or her students so that they can master the writing game. Some even add in another C (Culture), which I never do because I firmly and fondly remember what my secondary school English teacher used to say: KISS (Keep It Simple, Stupid).

But as a prolific (and popular?) writer, I have come to realise the limitations of PAC. It’s naive of me to predict accurately how an audience will respond to my work. The truth is, I never know exactly whether a piece of writing will tug their heartstrings or fall flat on my face. Writing is a dynamic process that the writer has less control of than he thinks.

For example, this article that I wrote in regards to converting BTC to SGD inexplicably netted me 37 cents. (https://www.publish0x.com/diaperfinancingfund/turning-btc-into-cash-step-by-step-guide-xeelvgp ) For context, I thought I would be lucky if I gained 5 cents out of this. Why would an audience already familiar with off-ramping crypto tip this article, especially when the currency involved is foreign to them? Your guess is as good as mine.
