Bull or Bear, do you know why?

When a market is rising it is said to be a bull-market. On the other hand, when, on the contrary, the trend is down, we speak of bear-market. This is a technical jargon that is also often used in the world of cryptocurrencies. But where does this rather singular termonology come from?

  • The bull, when attacking an enemy, horns him. With this movement the animal moves its horns from the bottom up. This is assimilated to the movement of those who buy, going to draw from the liquidity for sale, causing the price to rise.
  • The bear, on the other hand, attacks from top to bottom as a seller does, injecting liquidity into the market and causing prices to drop.

On wall street there is a statue of a bull, which symbolizes optimism and good omen for trading.

Charging bull.
