Vitaly Dmitriyevich "Vitalik" Buterin (Russian: Виталий Дмитриевич Бутерин is a Russian-Canadian programmer and writer primarily known as founder of Ethereum and as a co-founder of Bitcoin Magazine.

Vitalik Buterin had his first encounter with cryptocurrencies back in 2011, but didn’t get involved with the space until 2012. After reconsidering the merits of decentralization and Bitcoin, Buterin threw himself wholeheartedly into supporting the emerging industry.

On 30 November 2018, Vitalik Buterin received an honorary doctorate from the Faculty of Business and Economics of the University of Basel on the occasion of the Dies Academicus.
