Although central bank digital currencies reside within the group of so-called “stablecoins” (currencies anchored to other assets), the wave would lead many people to become interested in bitcoins and other digital currencies.
In the comparison, the advantages of bitcoin as a “scarce, uncompromising and apolitical digital currency that is open for anyone to use” would be clear. It would be, indirectly, a new gateway.
"If launched successfully, the infrastructure and education that would accompany the use of these assets could serve as a gateway for further adoption of Bitcoin and other digital currencies,"
Among their differences, central banks will have full control over the issue, the tracking of transactions and even the possibility to veto their use outside their jurisdiction or impose restrictions.
In a survey, almost 54% of 65 central entities said they were exploring the possible impact of stablecoins. China, France, Sweden and England have already done tests or plan to do them.
