This article focuses on so called "Bitcoin"cryptocurrencies besides Bitcoin core. You maybe heard about Bitcoin cash or Bitcoin SV but there are a lot more. Most of them are quite unknown or already abandoned. This post is just a brief overview, not a in depth review for each fork. I made it for information and entertaining purposes and would never invest in one of the coin. There are even more Bitcoin knock-offs which i didn't cover.

Bitcoin Cash

BCH was forked in 2017, the fork increased the block size to 8MB. The project owns the bitcoin.com domain. Bitcoin Cash trades on digital currency exchanges including Bitstamp, Coinbase, Gemini, Kraken, Bitfinex, and ShapeShift using the Bitcoin Cash name and the BCH ticker symbol for the cryptocurrency. The Bitcoin Cash owners, especially Roger Ver, like to pronounce it Bcash.

Bitcoin SV

Bitcoin SV is hardfork from Bitcoin Cash and was involved in a "Hash-war" with Bitcoin ABC (which I dont have in this list). Bitcoin SV claims to be the “real and original Bitcoin”. Bitcoin SV is the best bitcoin fork for me cause it has a unique usecase: You can run Windows XP on the Bitcoin SV Blockchain. BSV trades on CoinBene, KuCoin, OKEx, HitBTC, BitMart and many more.

Bitcoin 2

There is not a lot information available about BTC2, it uses a Proof of Stake algorithm an is not premined. It trades on Crex23, Escodex (never heard of these exchanges), so its a quite small project. In Feb 2018 they pruned the Blockchain from 150 GB to 1,5 GB, dont ask me how.

Bitcoin Black

I honestly dont know what this coin is good for. It looks like an ERC-20 token on the ethereum blockchain. "Bitcoin Black aims to be the cryptocurrency of the people, by the people for the people" says the website, and it also has an political approach "Education:Community based education,Bringing manipulation to light" (wow). BLACK is not traded on any exchange yet. But to be fair, it has a community and the forum is in use. But be careful, maybe its a SCAM.

First Bitcoin

First Bitcoin is issued by First Bitcoin capital. The whitepaper on the homepage refers to a TeslaCoil Coin. I think they have mixed up something or this coin doesn't exist. Coinmarketcap and other sites say its tradeable at livecoin.net. Ticker als also used by Bitmonkey so maybe this project is completely dead.

And another one (Dj Khaled voice) cancelled projekt. Looks like erc-20 token on the ethereum blockchain. Website is dead and I only found some infos on cryptoslate:"Bitcoin Red is an Ethereum token meant to be used and swapped socially to express emotions. For example, the coin creator(s) says red is the color of passion and leadership but also of anger." Seems like the creators are quite smart.

Bitcoin Scrypt

Bitcoin sCrypt is a decentralized blockchain crypto-currency that utilizes the scrypt proof-of-work algorithm. Bitcoin-sCrypt was originally developed as a more decentralized alternative to Bitcoin-core. Its traded on TradeSatoshi, NovaExchange and FreiExchange. This coin focuses (you guessed it) on privacy. Its traded on TradeSatoshi, Nanex, OctaEx, Exrates, Barterdex and HitBTC. Fork took place on March 2, 2017. Blocksize is 2 MB, and it uses the zk-SNARKs as privacy protocol. They forked the Bitcoin chain and the Zlassic Chain together(?). You can download a one-click-miner from their homepage.

Here is a creative knockoff name.The coin combines the familiarity of Bitcoin and advantages of the CryptoNight-Lite Variant 1 algorithm. It uses the Proof of work algo and is tradeable at STEX, Crew24 and has a dynamic blocksize. Last twitter post is from March 23rd, so its not dead. It is ASIC resistant, which means it is oriented towards GPU mining. Any device with a standard graphic card can be used.

Coin uses the Proof of Work algo, has no premine and is 100% decentral. BitcoinZ prides itself on 100% community inclusion - the community posts open and public proposals for change that are voted on. Well, this is easy, it´s "The World Best Blockchain Network that can ever be". Its uses the Equihash aglo and has 2MB blocksize and only traded at shuzbi. No info about the team on the website or any other source. Whole project could be a SCAM. To be more precise, it is a SCAM.

The fork started on Block 499.999. Lightning Bitcoin is a fork of the Bitcoin blockchain. By adopting DPoS consensus mechanism with 2M blocksize, Lightning Bitcoin improves txn speed, promotes decentralization and also supports smart contracts. Lightning Bitcoin combines the advantages of Bitcoin and Ethereum and creates a more valuable and functional blockchain system. Its traded on yobit, digifinex, coinegg and many more. Last bitcointalk post is from april, so there is not happening much. 

Super Bitcoin

Couldnt 100% figure out what this project is about. Only differs from the blocksize. Oh :"Support Turing-complete smart contracts to enable more functionality Increase BTC scalability so maybe we´ve got the ETH killer here. I like their roadmap: Stage 1-Refactoring Bitcoin, Stage 2-Activate smart contract,Stage 3-Support Lightning Network,Stage 4-Large block,Stage 5-Zero knowledge proof. Roadmaps with no timetable make no sense to me. 

Bitcoin Diamond

Another pretty active knockoff, place 45 at CMC. Launched by team EVEY& Team 007 the fork occurring at at block height 495866, implemented changes including a new proof of work algorithm OPTIMIZED X13(GPU), Blocksize is 8MB and the current blockchain is 135GB big. Its tradeable on OKEx, Binance, Huobi, Gate.io and many more.  

Bitcoin Gold

Fork occurred on October 24, 2017 on block 419406. Bitcoin Gold changed Bitcoin’s proof-of-work algorithm from SHA256 to Equihash. This coin suffered a rare "51% Attack". It listest on Binance, Bitfinex, Bithumb and many more. Last exchange listing (LATOKEN) ist from august 5th, so the project is still active.
