The new "Ascension Age" chapter of Sunflower Land kicked off in full swing this week and is already having a major impact on the game's economy and structure! As usual, the first week of a chapter is a quiet period, giving players time to analyze everything before diving into the missions, quests, and bounties that actually earn the season's currency—Shiny Feathers—the following week.

However, even before this chapter arrived, it seems the Sunflower Land team had planned for all the new features and updates to launch simultaneously with the pre-registration for their new game, Yakkamon. This forces players to choose which path to pursue; for intermediate players, it is impossible to do everything due to a lack of resources.

Why Is the Sunflower Land Token Rising?

The changes set to impact this chapter of Sunflower Land began weeks ago with the announcement of a new expansion mechanism—taking effect this season—that allows players to advance beyond Volcano Island. This drives advanced players to purchase resources in large quantities to continue their expansion.

Alongside this demand from advanced players, another development emerged: changes to FLOWER token withdrawal requirements and an increase in market fees for those not on Volcano Island. These changes are scheduled to take effect on August 14th, following community pressure regarding the suddenness of the hike; I believe the changes would have been implemented sooner without that pushback.

Most Sunflower Land players are at an intermediate level on Desert Island, with only a small fraction competing in auctions or residing on Volcano Island. These new requirements mean players must either level up to 100—a time-consuming process—or spend resources to reach Volcano Island. Additionally, the discount on gems has been reduced. If the token price had remained stable in the $0.07 range, the cost of resources would have started to rise, allowing players to earn more Flower tokens; after all, there would be high demand for expansions and leveling up, and the higher the demand, the more item prices increase.

However, the timing of the Yakkamon pre-registration was perfect; since staking Flower was one of the ways to earn airdrop points, a massive buying spree began so players could deposit the tokens for the pre-registration. Consequently, the token—previously hovering around $0.07—began to climb daily, and now, with deposits open, it is trading above $0.10.

As the token price rose, players began selling resources for Flower tokens at any price point. While this is great in the short term, in the long run, it means generating fewer tokens at a higher price—which is effectively the same as generating more tokens at a lower price. Had these changes not coincided, players could have developed their islands first and then focused more calmly on the new game from the Sunflower developers.

For intermediate players who tried to level up or expand during this period, the timing was terrible; they spent their Flower tokens to acquire resources and missed the chance to sell during the price surge. Instead, they are now forced to keep spending until they expand the volcano sufficiently or accept a continuous 2.5% fee until reaching level 100—a process that is both time-consuming and costly. A positive point is that, since a large portion of these tokens is being deposited into Yakkamon and likely won't be released until the end of Q4, the token might remain stable until then.
