From my candid observation, it is now clear to me that anytime one mention these words: sex,
love, or pregnancy within the four walls of the classroom, the student, especially girls of teen
age, react abnormally as If these words are sacrilegious. Why should this be so? Could it be
that right from their homes, their parent have failed to give them sex education or that their not
open to their children in matters concerning sex education?
These are ordinary English words, but student feels that they sound funny as they are
mentioned before them because they have already zeroed their minds on the negative notion of
sex education. It is therefore necessary to clarify issues concerning these words and how the
young students should take them on positive terms rather than in negative connotation.
LOVE is the essence of life itself, for without love there would not have been life. God our
creator is. He created man out of love. That is why the holy book, the Bible teaches us that
‟God is love″. There is no reason therefore for negatively equating love to sex. This is a wrong
notion which most of our young student, girls in particular, these days arrogate these words to
be. This should be expunged from their minds.
If a girl child tells her mother or father, ‟I love you”, she will not take it to mean she want to
have sex with him or her; what makes her think that if an outsider says the same thing to her , it
will be equivalent to what she said to her parent. This is a misnomer.
Lone is love irrespective of the types or categories the world has. In all of its types, which is the
giving out of everything one has to, to the other person positively.
Sex on the other hand is a noble act and an ingredient of love exclusively preserved for those
who are legitimately married to exercise. The positive outcome of sex by a married couple is
pregnancy, which is the avenue God has provided for the protection of human beings. It is this
positive outcome/result of having sex: pregnancy that made God to prohibit sex for the
unmarried, owing to the fact that they are not yet ready to shoulder the responsibilities of its
outcome (childbearing and child upbringing).
Our student should therefore know that these words are noble words and should not attach any negative notion to them when they hear them mentioned anywhere. They should know that
everything under the sun has time and season and so they should wait for the appropriate time
to execute the responsibilities of each time and season.
