Presearch: Staking for Keywords

Much of what I've experienced learning about crypto this year reminds me of learning to code .html in the fall of 1995 as a freshman at the University of Evansville. The potential to do things never before possible.

In those early days, looking things up online was difficult. You couldn't Google search engines because Google didn't exist yet, either as a website or a verb.

And it wasn't like Netscape had a search bar for AltaVista or Infoseek.

Information is power, and it's somewhat unsettling to think how much power a select few large companies wield as far as the flow of info goes.

Beware anyone pushing for heavy-handed corporate gatekeepers; their agenda is likely sinister, or at best misguided.

And it's with that in mind that I present you with a look at Presearch, a blockchain-based decentralized search engine.

Presearch bills itself as being a collaborative effort, running on nodes that are hosted by members of the community. By doing so, users can earn currency in the form of Presearch reward tokens, also known as PRE.

There is also the opportunity to earn tokens by simply doing look-ups on Presearch. You don't have to be logged in to utilize the search function on Presearch, though you won't earn tokens that way.

It's a somewhat similar concept to receiving small rewards for using the Brave web browser.

The search function itself has proven effective in my dealings with Presearch thus far, which is a critical element. At least based on the early returns, it's markedly more effective than using DuckDuckGo.

The first several listings are advertising-related, but they're clearly marked as such. And this brings me to another element of Presearch — staking for keywords.

This is the most interesting element to me about Presearch, the staking possibilities with PRE. If you have the highest stake for a given word or phrase, an advert you've created will show up in the results when someone does a search for the word/phrase in question.

As a website developer, that part really caught my attention.

There is the perpetual risk of being outstaked at any time, but because there is no charge for unstaking you can always move your PRE elsewhere without worry.

I've yet to reach the minimum level to begin staking, but fortunately the crew at Presearch explained it in detail last year in the article linked below.

The key to this project being effective is the quality of the search engine. Thus far I've been impressed with it, and I look forward to seeing what the future holds for Presearch.

In short, I recommend giving Presearch a try.
