Ten tips when plotting and farming Chia🌱

Chia I believe is a good project, lots of great things to come like DeFi, high possibility of the token price increasing and great for tinkerers.

The value prop for me is the size of the network and number of nodes, Bram and Gene ....

So some tips

1. Don't assume that you'll achieve astronomical returns, better to see it as participating in a lottery, solo farming you might get lucky and get a big win, otherwise you can receive incremental earnings from a pool, like Space Pool or Flexpool

2. Understand the difference between OG plots, solo (pool) plots and pool plots and make sure you use folders or color tags to distinguish between the different types

3. Don't invest too much in hardware or even better still don't invest at all; use what you have, maybe source some junk or secondhand drives - see Chia plotting & farming - minimum set up - try to follow the green🌱 concept

4. When plotting make sure the computer is not going to sleep or power down; currently if the plotting process gets interrupted it is back to square one, you can't resume

5. Don't use your desktop or laptop's internal SSD for plotting (it will cause untold wear and tear) use an external SSD or even HDD (although that will be slow)

6. The Chia blockchain is currently over 32GB and the wallet is over 7GB - make sure you have enough space for these OR follow SpaceFarmers excellent instructions how to put the blockchain and wallet databases on an external drive

7. If the drive the Chia client is transferring the plot to runs out of space you can just manually transfer the temp plot file (.plot.tmp) to another farm destination drive and change the file extension to just .plot and it will work

8. Check out MadMAx plotter and Flexpool's FlexFarmer - the former speeds up plotting, the latter replaces the Chia farmer wth memory saving and other benefits - UPDATE: the latest Chia blockchain software now includes both MadMAx and BladeBit plotters so really easy to choose them from the dropdown "Choose Plotter" options and achieve faster plots!

9. Check out the Chia Plot for news and thoughts from Chris

10. Play with nucle.io SPV Chrome extension wallet and accumulate Tails tokens (I'm up to over 100 tokens so far!)
