We keep reading on the social networks about plenty of conspiracy theories that try to convince us that the spreading of the epidemic was caused by this or that bad guy, or bad nation, on purpose or by mistake, but the point is always the same: it is somebody’s fault. This kind of attitude is typical of people that do not accept that life is dangerous by definition, that we are all hanging by a thread and that is our normal condition. Nature is wonderful, we own our lives to Nature, but Nature is not a benevolent god, Nature set the conditions for life to spread out and that’s it. From that moment our daily battle for survival started. It may be an earthquake, it may be a tsunami, it may be an asteroid hitting the planet, it may be a nearby supernova explosion running over the planet (very unlikely), it may be cosmic rays, it may our beloved sun, or it may be a new lethal corona or not corona virus, it may be so many things that do exist and are part of our wonderful universe that eventually will kill most or many, or some of us. In front of all these “normal” things that may happen tomorrow a mature and responsible attitude is being ready to fight, as all animals do every moment in the wilderness we also need to use our best weapons to fight and earn our chanches to survive: use our brain. We are like the gazzelles weaking up every morning in the savannah: they know that they need to run faster than predators in order to survive, we know that we need to think well and find solutions to remove threats that continuously are put on us by Nature. People that do not accept that this is our condition need to find someone to blame for what happens, someone to assign the responsibility for their fear of living. If God does exist and is a loving God someone else must be responsible for the spreading of the virus. Billions of human beings have been killed by viruses over humanity million years long history, this epidemic may be the number 100000th, for the first 99999 ones no genetic engineering laboratories existed but still, this time, some bad “foreign” guy must have originated the tragedy, on purpose or not it makes no difference. Conspiracy theories are dangerous because they distract us from our duty: use all our energies to find the best way to survive and protect our beloved ones from danger. We need to keep investing on science and people working in science, we need to keep trusting them to increase the probability that next time that an asteroid will show up nearby the earth maybe it will find a high energy laser beam to wait for him and divert it from us, or that the next RNA virus that will jump from animals to humans it will find us ready to fight with protective masks, social distance, hand sanitizers and all other weapons that we are learning how to use in these terrible days. Let’s leave children to waste their time with imaginative theories and let’s spend our time as adults to fight for everybody, and also for them!
