In the Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrug, the son of a deputy school principal mined cryptocurrency on his equipment, which he placed in the school's back room for at least 1 million rubles (12120$).
His mother was accused of abuse of office and sent the case to court, the regional prosecutor's office said.
This deputy director of a comprehensive school has already been fired from his job. At her son's request, she installed cryptocurrency mining equipment in the school's back room.
The investigation found that since January 2023, the miner has earned at least 1 million rubles on this equipment. He transferred the money to his account, the report says.
The damage to the school from the illegal consumption of electricity by mining equipment amounted to 680 thousand rubles. The accused reimbursed this amount at the investigation stage. The criminal case under Article 285 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation has now been sent to court for consideration on the merits.
A month earlier, a mining farm was discovered in the Irkutsk region in a former boarding school building. In this case, the court ordered the dismantling of the equipment and the termination of the inappropriate use of the land.
All legal entities and sole proprietors in Russia mining cryptocurrency are required to register in a special register of the Federal Tax Service (FTS). Individuals do not need to do this if they are engaged in mining, using electricity for no more than 6 thousand kWh per month.
According to the Federal Tax Service on April 1, 606 miners have registered with the service in 5 months. The most popular regions for mining cryptocurrencies are the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Irkutsk Region and Tatarstan.
