Worldcoin Crashes
Back in August 2023 Coin Bureau host Guy Turner warned that Sam Atlman's WorldCoin (WLD) had the potential to collapse within a year. While that was 18 months ago and the token has not entirely crashed and disappeared yet, it is once again suffering and this time its related to Trump's Tariffs. As part of a YouTube video Turner told his 2.3 million subscribers that his concerns over the coin stemmed from his belief that the artificial intelligence-based altcoin, which uses iris-scanning technology, may not live up to its promise. At the time he stated:
“So far the controversial crypto project has scanned over two million eyes around the world to develop what it claims is a decentralized digital ID in exchange for crypto.
Naturally, there have been plenty of concerns and opinions about Worldcoin and no shortage of speculation about whether its associated cryptocurrency is the next big thing or another VC (venture capital) pump and dump.”
He felt that if the project failed to reach its potential within a year then the hype would cool and the coin would only be facing a downward spiral. He highlighted that the project’s whitepaper stated that “the community of users will determine the token’s utility.” Turner went on to state tat the Worldcoin “community currently has no way of doing this.” He stated:
“The absence of demand drivers could mean that the small amount of new supply coming from World ID users and the Worldcoin Foundation could be enough to suppress its price once the hype has faded. If utility isn’t introduced in a year’s time, selling by other WLD recipients could crush it.”
Turner was not wrong. At that time in August 2023 the WLD token was trading for $2.32. As of the 7th of April 2025 the WLD token is trading for around $0.6265. In a single year that token has lost 91% of its value, while another AI token called Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (FET) has booked similar annual losses of 86.2%. WLD is pushing towards record lows and the current bearish outlook in the market means it is likely they will beach all-time lows soon.
In the above chart it is shown how the token is retracing towards the 61.8% Fibonacci level in the daily chart and rejected a move above this area. The bearish outlook means it is only a matter of time before the token loses more value and continues to fall. Once the price fell below $0.6930 it recorded the lowest levels that WorldCoin has reached since the token was launched. While it is not clear how much lower it will fall, one thing is for certain. Turner was right.
Given the privacy concerns and low adoption of the token it is not surprising to see it facing one of the biggest crashes among the bearish market. While it is understandable that investors are taking profits after months of bullish momentum combined with regulatory uncertainty in the likes of the United States, it has taken a big hit on WorldCoin. Asian markets are especially selling during low liquidity hours, which is then triggering cascading liquidations. At one point during the Asian session the token reached a record low of $0.5817.
While the big crashes of Ethereum and XRP are making the most headlines, with Ethereum dropped below $1,800 and now hovering around $1,620 with XRP falling below the crucial $2 level it is important to note that the altcoin market is also being hit hard. Whether this is a quick dip or the start of a longer bearish cycle remains to be seen, but when it comes to WorldCoin I think we can all agree this is a project nobody will mind seeing disappear.
