Good day everybody,
Welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In today's post I will be looking at the NFT launch of Symbiogenesis by Japanese gaming giant Square Enix. It will be the first venture into the Web3 gaming space for the company as one of the industry’s biggest supporters of cryptocurrency and they will hope to build on the success of their recent NFT mint.
Square Enix, the storied video game publisher which created the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts franchises are revelling in the reward of launching their third and final Chapter of NFTs as part of their first original Ethereum NFT game. Chapter 1 of Symbiogenesis has drawn major attention over its period of release, with the company holding an auction for the NFT over three phases between November 27th and December 3rd. Within the NFT auctions were all character non-fungible tokens (NFTs) for the game.
The final mint auction took place between the 2nd and 3rd of December, with users required to join the Allow List Entry Campaign to mint NFT Characters. With only 500 characters available, the exclusivity aspect of the game has been ramped up to create much furore and demand. Within the final mint were 400 NFTs, with ten having been allocated during the first auction between the 27th and 28th of November, with the second action allocating 90 NFTs between the 30th of November and the 1st of December.
During the first two phases users were allowed to bid only on one character. During this process the more sought-after characters saw their prices rise quickly, with the mint price for all phases starting at 0ETH and rising in 0.01 ETH increments. Those who were outbid were allowed to move on to raise bids on a different character, and there were also additional perks and rewards for 'top players' along the way.
On the 4th of December the team announced that “all 500 characters from Chapter 1 were minted.” The mint saw some characters have been sold for over 1 ETH. These would include Calya (1 ETH), Newt (1.3 ETH), Wart (1.6 ETH), Murasaki (2 ETH), and Mistletoe (2.06 ETH). Some have hinted that the quirky side of the NFTs - the artwork and names - are another driving factor in the popularity of the NFTs.
The Symbiogenesis game is being billed as a “digital collectible art project” as part of an original, narrative-driven game from Square Enix. Due to launch on the 21st of December 2023, the winners of the NFTs will use these them to log into the game. The game will revolve around the characters minted as Ethereum NFTs, along with items and other NFTs minted on the Polygon Network.
The game will make use of familiar gameplay mechanics as part of its combination of characters, story, and worldbuilding. The story focuses on how humanity has managed to survive the pollution by living on floating island setting known as the "Floating Continent." While living peacefully, a Dragon attacks to put their new harmony in danger. Players are faced with choices in the game that will determine their fate and through the unravelling of the mystery behind this world's origins they will have the choice and decisions to lead it towards an ideal future.
The final mission within the game is known as the World Mission. This will only be available to three people who completed all the missions and collected special items throughout the game, and it will include multiple endings which change depending on the mission. The protagonist of the game is called Chroma and this NFT is not for sale.
The naming of characters does seem somewhat random and with other names such as Fungus, Lumber, Timber, Chamomile, Arm, Navigation, Kind, Lovesickness, Handshake, Cactus, Protein, and Tattoo. There seems little connection between the names and character appearance in the NFTs and they may have zero reflection on the characters in the long run. The also notable character designs and factions revealed on social media, including the notable group known as ‘Normies’ to attract casual gamers, will certainly have drawn further attention and attraction to the game.
Interesting venture from Square Enix into the Web3 gaming world, with Symbiogenesis showing great popularity from the off. How the company maintain interest and develop the game remains to be seen, and while the story currently feels like it lacks depth, I am certain the end result will be satisfactory to its many players.
Have a great day.
