Good day everyone,
I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at the impending exit of Elon Musk from his role a DOGE for the Trump administration.
Musk Leaves DOGE
The 130 day tenure of Elon Musk in his position as a special government employee at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is coming to an end and it is having ramifications on the global stock market. Musk made his announcement that he is finishing in his role, which was due to end on May 30, and gave special thanks to President Donald Trump for giving Elon the opportunity to reduce wasteful government spending.
The announcement by Musk was made in an appearance to help reassure investors concerned about his growing political involvement and its impact on Tesla’s core business. Upon the announcement of the news Tesla shares rose over 2.15% in overnight trading to reach $364. The stock price had been down 1.65% during regular trading on Tuesday where it closed at $356.90.
Musk made the announcement via his social media platform X, where he noted that his role had concluded but the mission of DOGE will continue within government operations. According to the Reuters news agency, Musk's exit was decided "at a senior staff level" - and he did not have a formal conversation with the president before making his announcement on X.
The White House confirmed the news of Musk's departure and noted his offboarding had already begun. The move by billionaire Musk into politics was influenced on streamlining bureaucracy. His efforts, which saw an estimated 260,000 out of the 2.3 million-strong federal civilian workforce having their jobs cut, was part of an overall pledge to cut "at least $2 trillion" from the federal government budget, before halving this target, then reducing it to $150bn.
Musk has been increasingly vocal about his dissatisfaction with Washington over the last week, voicing his criticism of Trump’s tax plan as bloated and counterproductive, and described the federal government’s internal inefficiencies as worse than expected. As part of an interview with the Washington Post, Musk admitted, “It’s an uphill battle trying to improve things in DC.” He added that DOGE had become a scapegoat for failures within the administration.
It was reported that Musk clashed with key White House officials and publicly derided trade adviser Peter Navarro over tariffs. His frustration also extended to opposing a deal between OpenAI and Abu Shabi while objecting to his own AI company’s exclusion. The 12% shrinkage of the federal workforce via buyouts, early retirements, and restructuring is the legacy his brief stint in politics will be remembered for.
Many investors in Tesla had called for Musk to scale down on his political involvement and focus on leading the EV company. His impending exit from DOGE will be seen as a positive move back towards his Tesla and other business priorities. Musk, who spent nearly $300 million supporting Republican campaigns last year, said at a recent economic forum that he plans to reduce his political contributions, stating “I think I’ve done enough.”
