FIFA Blockchain
The world governing body of international football, FIFA, have announced the launch of a new blockchain compatible with Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) for NFTs. It will be known as the FIFA blockchain and will see FIFA Collect migrate to the new blockchain no earlier than May 20. The news came via a migration notice published by the platform and as part of the update it will include support future features and enhance scalability while ensuring to maintain users’ access to existing collectibles.
It marks a major step towards the adoption of more advanced technologies by FIFA, and also ensures the management of its NFT collections and digital experiences dedicated to fans will continue at the highest of levels. Any assets which have been previously purchased prior to the migration will be moved automatically unless they were previously exported. Anybody who has moved collectibles off-platform must reimport them before the migration date to ensure they’re included in the transition.
Currently the FIFA Collect platform is based on Algorand but FIFA are ditching that in a move towards their own FIFA Blockchain as per the April 30 announcement. The decision to switch to a new blockchain network arises from the need to ensure higher performance, improved scalability, and more advanced future functionalities according to FIFA.
The move to a EVM compatible Blockchain represents a strategic advantage as it will allow integration with an ecosystem already widely established and supported by numerous tools and digital wallets. It will not only improve the user experience but it will also allow FIFA to expand its digital offerings. This in turn should help to create new modes of interaction with the fans and a more dynamic and accessible NFT market.
Users of FIFA Collect will not be required to take any immediate action and FIFA noted they will issue clear instructions as the process begins, with a 12-hour service downtime expected during the switch. Collectibles already listed on the platform will remain listed unless users choose to delist them. FIFA Collect offers the official NFTs related to the world of football and the migration will also see a change of wallet compatibility. Current Algorand-based wallets like Pera and Defly will no longer be supported and users will be required to use MetaMask or any WalletConnect-compatible EVM wallet.
Any existing balances in USDC will remain available for withdrawal post-migration, but cannot be spent on the platform after the move. FIFA have also made it clear there will be no fees applied for the migration of existing assets.

This latest move by FIFA to migrate to their own blockchain further demonstrates a growing commitment in the world of Web3.
What began as collectibles could become a networked model of participation—where play, identity, and ownership move through the same digital rails. The overall aim is to transform FIFA Collect into an increasingly central platform in the universe of digital soccer. FIFA will have more control over user data, licensing terms, and platform dynamics by shifting to a proprietary blockchain. It is expected there will be an introduction of new interactive experiences, exclusive events, and digital rewards for the most active fans.
