British Open to Crypto as part of Retirement Plans

Good day everyone,

I hope you are all having a good day, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things crypto. In this post I will be looking at the result of a recent survey which show that 1 in 4 British adults are open to having cryptocurrency as part of their retirement plans.

British Open to Crypto as part of Retirement Plans

According to a survey completed by by Censuswide between June 4 and 6 noted that  a total of 27% of British adults are open to having crypto in their retirement portfolios. A total of 2,000 UK adults were questioned as part of the poll. The growing interesting among UK adults is part of the ever-growing trend that digital assets may one day compete for a share of the country’s multitrillion-pound pension market.

As part of the survey results, 40% of those who are open to having crypto within their retirement plans said the main attraction was the potential for higher returns compared to traditional pension assets. A further 23% of respondents noted they would consider withdrawing part or all of their existing pensions to invest directly in crypto. Younger investors are especially active with almost 20% of adults aged 25 to 34 admitting to withdrawing pension funds in order to purchase crypto.

Currently more than four in five UK adults hold pensions worth an estimated total of £3.8 trillion ($5.12 trillion). A minor change in direction with these investments could represent a major influx of capital into the cryptocurrency market. While the appetite is there, currently the UK has a limited amount of pension-linked crypto options.

Concerns remain as the top risks associated with crypto remain - hacking and phishing attacks (41%), lack of regulation and consumer protection (37%), and volatility (30%). Michele Golunska, Aviva’s managing director of wealth and advice, warned that crypto’s appeal shouldn’t overshadow the benefits of traditional pensions:

“We mustn’t forget the value of the good old pension. It comes with some powerful benefits, like employer contributions and tax relief, that can make a real difference to your long-term financial wellbeing.”

Almost one in three respondents admitted they didn’t fully understand the trade-offs of replacing pensions with crypto, while 27% were unaware there were any risks involved. From the 1st of January 2026 the UK will require crypto firms to collect and report customer information on every trade and transfer as part of a sweeping effort to strengthen tax compliance and oversight in the digital asset sector. HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) noted that the new rules will require platforms record full names, home addresses, and tax identification numbers for all users.

The release of the survey comes shortly after United States President Donald Trump signed an executive order permitting 401(k) retirement plans to include Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. This shows just how far behind the UK is in terms of integrating crypto into mainstream retirement products. Many investors still rely on direct trading through exchanges like Binance or Coinbase rather than through regulated pension vehicles. Around one in five UK adults have held crypto at some point, which represents around 11.6 million people. Two-thirds of that group continue to hold some form of digital asset.

Have a great day.

Peace. CryptoGod-1.
