Bye Bye Blur

The doors are closing at the NFT marketplace known as Blur, with the site set to cease trading on November 12, 2026. The marketplace launch back in 2022 and while the website will close, the existing Ethereum NFT marketplace contracts will remain intact so users need not worry about their NFTs disappearing. This means that although the actual marketplace will no longer exist, the protocol will continue to survive on-chain.

Back in 2023 Blur was at its peak, but like so many within the NFT space they have seem a massive downturn. Trading volume has dropped more than 99.5% since the boom and it is no longer viable to maintain the marketplace. This also applies to their NFT lending service, Blend, which will stop issuing matching new loans. Borrowers will also be required to repay any remaining loans before the deadline or they will automatically become default. Users have until November 12 to make their decision, with a planned withdrawal tool to come in place afterwards.

This marks such a contrast of fortune, with Blur grabbing more than 70% of Ethereum NFT trading volume in March 2023. This equated to a monthly volume of around $1.43 billion, with March 2026 recording less than $7 million. As one can imagine, the news did not sit well in the crypto space. The value of their native token, BLUR, has fallen sharply. According to CoinGecko the price had fallen around 34% in 24 hours to sit at $0.012.
