As we can see it was a very good window for Newcastle, Liverpool, and Everton. All three of these clubs managed to strenghten their squads with some quality players. Newcastle will hope they have gotten enough quality in to help them beat the drop, while Everton have really strenghtened their midfield position for new manager Frank Lampard. Liverpool got a top class winger in Diaz and it will be interesting to see how he fits into their front three. The Reds also missed out on Carvalho from Fulham but will hope to get him on a free in the summer instead.
Arsenal managed to get Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang off the wage books effectively saving themselves 25 million in his wages over the next 18 months. Aston Villa did some great work with getting their business done early in Coutinho, Digne, and Calum Chambers. It was a quiet window for Man United but they managed to get some of their deadwood in Van Der Beek and Martial off the books. Brentford meanwhile pulled off a fairy tale in bringing Christian Eriksen back to the Premier League after his heart condition during the Euros last summer. Tottenham and Conte will be disappointed to have missed out on their main targets, but the Italian did manage to secure Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in from Juventus.
Across the rest of Europe, some of the more interesting transfers saw:
- Aaron Ramsey go to Rangers on loan.
- Dušan Vlahović sealed a transfer to Juventus despite interest from Arsenal.
- Jermain Defoe joined Sunderland in what must surely be his final team before retirement.
- Andy Carroll got a new club in West Brom on a free.
- Denis Zakaria got his move from Gladback to Juventus despite interest from the Premier League.
- Romain Faivre, previously linked with Newcastle, moved to Lyon.
- Jonathan Ikoné moved from Lille to Fiorentina as a replacement for Vlahović.
- Arthur Cabral also moved to Fiorentina from Basel as a replacement for Vlahović.
- Federico Gatti went from Frosinone to Juventus as a coveted Defender from Serie B.
- Kevin Paredes, a promising teenager from the USA, moved from DC United to Wolfsburg.
- Ibrahima Koné, a star for Mali at AFCON, moved from Sarpsborg to Lorient.
- Ousmane Dembele remained at Barcelona after a lot of rumours regarding PSG and Chelsea, but will be leaving on a free in the summer.
