I hope you are all well and had an excellent week, welcome to CryptoGod-1’s blog on all things sports. This weekend saw City lose their unbeaten run, United's woes continue at home, Chelsea get back to winning ways, Brighton were shown up by Villa, while Spurs and Liverpool played out a thriller.

Week Predictions & Final Results

So in terms of the predicted scores, I got 1/10 correct scores this week. In terms of match-winner/loser, I managed to predict 3/10 correctly this weekend.

Predicted: Aston Villa 2—2 Brighton

Result: Aston Villa 6—1 Brighton

Watkins x3, Estupinan OG, Ramsey, Douglas Luiz - Fati

The game started in a tense affair, with boths sides working on drawing each other out. Brighton had the opening chance when Gilmour played a ball over the top for Estupinan, but he shot straight at Martinez. Villa took control from there, and on 14 minutes Cash cutback for Watkins to get the opener. On 21 minutes a poor pass by Veltman allowed Diaby to play Watkins in for his second. Five minutes later it was three, as Diaby's shot was deflected in off Estupinan. De Zerbi made three changes at the break, and there was an immediate impact as on 50 minutes when Fati was on hand to tap in from close range for his first Premier League goal. Brighton were beginning to look threatening, but on 65 minutes any hope of a comeback was extinguished when McGinn picked out Watkins for his hattrick. Ramsey was on hand to add a fifth in the 85th minute, while Luiz got his goal in the seventh minute of stoppage time. It was an abysmal day for Brighton, who have now conceded in 11 straight Premier League games. As for Villa, they moved above the Seagulls with a thoroughly professional performance before both these sides continue their European adventures this Thursday.

Predicted: Bournemouth 0—2 Arsenal

Result: Bournemouth 0—4 Arsenal

Saka, Ødegaard, Havertz, White

Arteta went into this game with the availability of certain players in question, but Saliba, Rice, and Saka all made the starting line-up. It was the Cherries who started brighter, but soon Arsenal were in control. It took 17 minutes for the opener, when Saka was on hand to score after Jesus' header came back off the woodwork. Zinchenko then tested Neto in goal, before Ødegaard doubled their lead before the break. On 44 minutes he converted a penalty after Aarons had fouled Nketiah in the area. After the break Arsenal continued their dominance and on 53 minutes another penalty was awarded, this time for a foul on Ødegaard by Christie. Up stepped Havertz for his first goal involvement in 12 games for the club. His replacement late on, Smith Rowe, almost got a goal of his own, but on 93 minutes Arsenal did get their fourth. This time White was on hand to head in from Ødegaard's free-kick and seal the win. The result means Arsenal have won their opening three away games this season, although they did lose Saka to injury late on. The Cherries meanwhile have failed to win any of their last 11 Premier League games.

Predicted: Everton 1—1 Luton

Result: Everton 1—2 Luton

Calvert-Lewin - Lockyer, Morris

A first ever Premier League win for Luton town saw Everton's home woes continue. McNeil, Onana, Gueye and Garner all had chances as part of an early Everton onslaught. Luton began to create their own chances, and on 24 minutes they took a surprise lead. Doughty's corner was headed onto the bar by Morris, but Lockyer deflected Young's clearance into the net. On 31 minutes it was two as this time Doughty's free kick was volleyed in by Morris. On 41 minutes the Toffees got one back when Pickford's long ball was headed to Garner. He pass to Onana allowed the midfielder to force a save from Kaminski, and Doucoure set the ball up for Calvert-Lewin to score. Harrison and Beto came on in the second half but Everton failed to cause Luton much trouble. Calvert-Lewin put two efforts wide while Beto wasted another. The result means Everton have now lost all four of their home games so far this season, but for Luton, the magic of the Premier League continues with their first win, and what a huge win it may be come the end of the campaign.

Predicted: Manchester United 2—0 Crystal Palace

Result: Manchester United 0—1 Crystal Palace

Andersen

Another defeat for United, this time in front of their home crowd, as Ten Hag has plenty to ponder. Guehi glanced a header wide early on to show a sign of things to come, although Hojlund had an effort cleared off the line by Mitchell soon after. Hodgson's side looked dangerous from set pieces, and on 25 minutes they struck through Andersen when he met Eze's cross. United were stunned and the remainder of the half played out in similar fashion. After the break Johnstone repelled the early pressure from United, with Fernandes and Hojlund testing the keeper. Mount headed over when he should have scored, while Garnacho's cross was almost turned into his own net by Mitchell. Confidence disappeared from United and in the end they deserved little from the game, but the home crowd wont stand for this. They have had their worst ever start to a Premier League season after 7 games, have lost consecutive home league games for the first time since November 2021. Palace meanwhile will be proud of their efforts and with the three points firmly on the board.

Predicted: Newcastle 4—1 Burnley

Result: Newcastle 2—0 Burnley

Almirón, Isak

The away side started better in this one, as Pope denied Amdouni following good work by Koleosho. Burnley were looking strong, but on 14 minutes Newcastle turned the game on its head. Almirón cut inside from the right and bent a perfect effort into the far corner to give Newcastle the lead. Isak was then denied by Trafford and failed to score the follow up with an open goal. Anderson saw a close range header saved and immediately after the break Trippier saw a deflected effort go just wide. Joelinton went off injured in a crushing blow for Newcastle, but on 76 minutes they got their second goal. Al Dakhil had slid in on Gordon in the area to give away a spot kick, which Isak dispatched perfectly. It was another solid win for Howe's men, who have overcome their shaky start to the season and are looking a force once again. As for Kompany, he will need to muster the troops for their huge clash this week against Luton, as the club is still searching for their first Premier League win this season.

Predicted: West Ham 2—0 Sheffield United

Result: West Ham 2—0 Sheffield United

Bowen, Soucek

The Hammers recorded a fine win here against a wounded Sheffield United, who showed signs of their recent thrashing at the hands of Newcastle. Soucek and Aguerd both went close early on as West Ham look to burst into a quick lead, and they got their goal on 24 minutes. Bowen, Alvarez and Soucek combined to release Coufal, who cut the ball back for Bowen to tuck him first time. Sheffield United looked lost, and on 37 minutes a terrible pass by Hamer was intercepted by Antonio, who played in Soucek to score past Foderingham. In the second half Sheffield United look stronger, and had chances to reduce the deficit. McBurnie put a header wide while Ahmedhodzic had an effort saved. While their second half performance was much stronger, the club are still bottom of the league with a single point and are clearly struggling at this level. West Ham meanwhile will be delighted with another solid win as they prepare for the Europa League clash with Freiburg on Thursday.

Result: Wolves 2—1 Manchester City

Diaz OG, Hwang - Álvarez

A shock result which saw Manchester City lose their perfect start to the season, and following on their Cup defeat to Newcastle it is clear Pep will not be impressed. City started brighter, passing the ball around for fun, and Haaland was denied by a last ditch Dawson tackle. Wolves did take their first chance, as Neto burst past Ake and his low cross deflected in off Dias on 13 minutes. Ake and Dias wasted chances as the first half worse on, and Wolves managed to hold out until the break. In the second half Álvarez brought City level on 58 minutes when he bent in a brilliant free-kick. Foden then saw a shot cleared off the line by Dawson as the pressure began to grow, but on 66 minutes Wolves took the lead again. Hwang found space on the left before firing in at the second attempt. City kept pushing to get back level but Dawson kept Haaland out of the game, and for their 23 attempts City deserved little in return. O’Neil oversaw his third victory of the campaign as Wolves are beginning to look a proper unit under his guidance. Pep meanwhile will have plenty to ponder following two defeats in a row.

Predicted: Tottenham 3—5 Liverpool

Result: Tottenham 2—1 Liverpool

Son, Matip OG - Gakpo

Late heartache for nine men Liverpool here as Spurs go marching on under Ange Postecoglou. Liverpool did start brighter, with Gakpo and Robertson forcing saves from Vicario. As the action packed game was unfolding, everything changed in the 26th minute. Jones was given a yellow for an over the ball studs up challenge on Bissouma, but VAR changed it to a red. Even with a man disadvantage, Liverpool thought they went ahead when Diaz scored a beauty, but it was ruled as offside. After the game the PGMOL apologised for the incorrect decision. Moments later, in the 36th minute, Spurs went ahead. Maddison played in Richarlison, who squared for Son to score. Richarlison hit the post before the half time whistle, but in the fourth minute of stoppage time Liverpool got level. Gakpo was on hand to swivel and score from a van Dijk knockdown following Szoboszlai's cross. Liverpool should have then led as Diaz just missed a low cross into the box. The second half provided just as much drama, as Maddison and Son forced superb saves from Alisson. Richarlison was deemed offside when Spurs scored just before the hour mark, and moments later Liverpool had more drama to endure. Jota got booked for tripping Udogie on a breakaway, before getting his second yellow less than two minutes later for a slide tackle on the same player. Liverpool were down to nine men but defended superbly, restricting Spurs to limited and wasteful chances. However, as added time was running out Spurs found a winner. Porro crossed from the right on 96 minutes and Matip managed to divert the ball into his own net. It was Liverpool's first league defeat of the season, and stopped them taking advantage of Manchester City's loss earlier in the day. As for Spurs, they are loving life under Postecoglou and will hope for more magical moments like this.

Predicted: Nottingham Forest 2—1 Brentford

Result: Nottingham Forest 1—1 Brentford

Domínguez - Norgaard

The first half saw Forest have a goal ruled out for Awoyini on 8 minutes after he had turned in Murillo's header from close-range but the striker had been offside. As the remainder of the first half played out in a tepid affair, stoppage time provided more drama. Janelt forced a save from Turner but soon after Dominguez's arm had struck the ball in the area, and then Boly did similar. Both were ruled as non penalties by the VAR, adding more fuel to the fire here. After the break Turner appeared to bring down Wissa in the area, but VAR deemed it acceptable. Niakhate got a second yellow for planting his studs on Wissa in the 56th minute, and two minutes later Brentford were ahead when Norgaard nodded home Jensen's free-kick. The lead did not last long, as on 65 minutes Domínguez headed in after some nice play between Toffolo and Gibbs-White. Brentford put everything into finding a winner, but despite their late push, Forest just about managed to hold on. The draw means Brentford have dropped eight points from winning positions this season in the league, while Forest have now only been beaten twice at the City Ground in their previous 18 home league games.

Predicted: Fulham 2—2 Chelsea

Result: Fulham 0—2 Chelsea

Mudryk, Broja

A massive win for Chelsea and Pochettino as they look to get the club back on track. The Blues went into this one with 11 players missing, but they made a positive start to proceedings. Mudryk look a bit out of the game but on 18 minutes that all changed as he scored his first goal for the club after taking Colwill's left-wing cross on his chest and firing through Leno's legs. A minutes later and Broja made it two when Palmer cut out Ream's pass and played the striker in, with Ream deflecting the effort in off Broja. Chelsea were clearly on top throughout the remainder of the half as Fulham struggled to get into the game. After the break the Cottagers look better, with Iwobi and Vinicius both wasting half chances. Lukic came on and also caused problems, sending an effort too close to the Chelsea goalkeeper. Maatsen hit the post for Chelsea from a Broja cut back as they looked for a third, but all in all it was a huge win for the club. It was Mudryk's 24th game for Chelsea and his 22nd attempt on goal which finally led to his first for the club, and it was Chelsea's first goal in 47 attempts.

Table After Match Day 7

A look at the top half of the table and a hectic weekend of results sees Manchester City remain top by a point, with Spurs moving up to second. Arsenal sit in third with Liverpool a point behind in fourth. Villa sit in fifth with Brighton in sixth, while West Ham occupy the final potential European place. Newcastle sit in eight, with Palace and United making up the top half.

As for the bottom half, and Sheffield United are propping up the table. Burnley remain above them on goal difference, with Bournemouth making up the relegation places. Luton and Everton sit just above them on 4 points, with Wolves and Brentford clear on 7. Above them are Fulham, Forest, and Chelsea to make up the bottom half.
