This weekend saw Luton get their first point of the season, Everton managed a huge win, the North London Derby played out a draw, and Liverpool continue their impressive start to the season and remain on the heels of Manchester City.

Week Predictions & Final Results

So in terms of the predicted scores, I got 3/10 correct scores this week. In terms of match-winner/loser, I managed to predict 7/10 correctly this weekend.

Predicted: Crystal Palace 1-1 Fulham

Result: Crystal Palace 0-0 Fulham

Selhurst Park witnessed a fiery first half, as Pereira saw an effort saved by Johnstone early on. Willian and Jimenez then both had efforts saved as Eze shot wide later in the half for the first real chance from Palace. The referee handed out four yellow cards in the half with some questionable decisions along the way, but in the second half the game did not live up to the first period. Fulham had the best chance of the second half with Decordova-Reid stealing the ball and laying it off for Jimenez, but the striker failed with his final pass to the far post. Mateta put an effort into the arms of Leno while a lack of quality meant there was no breakthrough at either end. A point apiece in the end and the result means Hodgson has only lost at home once since returning as manager of Palace last season. Fulham meanwhile are winless in nine London Derbies. 

Predicted: Luton 1-2 Wolves

Result: Luton 1-1 Wolves

Morris - Neto

Kenilworth Road was delighted as Luton managed to claim their first point of the season against Wolves. Luton were dominant from the off as they created chance after chance in this one, but only four efforts in the game were on target. They saw Morris strike the bar in their closest attempt of the half, while Bellegarde was given a red card in the 39th minute for an alteration with Lockyer. Just after the break in the 50th minute Neto outpaced Lockyer and managed to fire Wolves into the lead. Luton got themselves level in the 65th minute when Gomes inadvertently handled the ball in the box. Up stepped Morris to send Sa the wrong way, and from there Luton looked for a winner. Ogbene had the ball in the net late on but it wasn't to be as he was ruled offside. Both sides have a long way to go this season and will likely be there or thereabouts when it comes to the relegation battle, but for now every point counts.

Predicted: Manchester City 3-0 Nottingham Forest

Result: Manchester City 2-0 Nottingham Forest

Foden, Haaland

City dominated this game in the first half, passing the ball with ease and picking their moments to attack. Within the first quarter of an hour the game was put to rest. The first goal came on 7 minutes when Foden scored thanks to a Walker cross. From there it was on 14 minutes when Nunes played some instrumental play before crossing for Haaland to head home. City continued to dominate and restrict Forest with the ball for the remainder of the half. However 27 seconds into the second half Rodri get a red for a shove on Gibbs-White near the neck. Awoniyi and Ederson ended up squaring up as they game become ill tempered, and Forest began to see plenty of the ball. There was no bombarding attack from Forest despite their numerical advantage, and Pep's side held on to make it six wins from six. Cooper meanwhile will know his side are still performing well this season and this was never going to be an easy away day.

Predicted: Brentford 2-0 Everton

Result: Brentford 1-3 Everton

Jensen - Doucouré, Tarkowski, Calvert-Lewin

Everton managed their first win of the season for Dyche as they made the perfect start here. In the 6th minute Tarkowski headed the ball down for Doucouré to finish and from there Everton looked to build on their lead. Beto’s cushioned header was put wide by McNeil, and Doucouré hit the bar. Moments later Brentford were level when Jensen scored from Janelt cross in the 28th minute. Lewis-Potter went close as Brentford looked to gain a lead, but Everton began to dominate after the break as Onana and Beto both headed wide. Tarkowski headed in from a McNeil corner on 67 minutes before Calvert-Lewin scored his first goal of the season on 71 minutes to ensure the win. It was Everton’s first win of the season, and badly needed. Brentford meanwhile suffered just their second defeat across their last 19 home Premier League games.

Predicted: Burnley 2-2 Manchester United

Result: Burnley 0-1 Manchester United

Fernandes

United came into his game on a run of three defeats, and they showed determination in the opening exchanges. Rashford hit the side netting as Fernandes set him up, but Burnley began to gain control of the game. Onana saved from Amdouni's low header before the Swiss international hit the post soon after. Evans thought he had scored from a Reguilon corner but it was ruled out by VAR. Burnley grew in confidence but could not find a goal. Evans managed to assist Fernandes in the 45th minute as United took a questionable lead. Ten minutes after the break and Hojlund just couldnt connect with Dalot's cross. Rashford set up the striker soon after but again there was no goal. Burnley put pressure on United late in the half but did not show enough. Koleosho looked bright but once he was taken off towards the end the attack of Burnley was gone. Hojlund and Rashford both wasted chances as United looked far from convincing but the win will be huge for the sides morale. As for Burnley, they are still waiting for their first win back in the Premier League.

Result: Arsenal 2-2 Tottenham

Romero OG, Saka - Son x2

The North London Derby saw an ear-deafening Emirates at kick-off, as Son saw an early goal ruled out following a Bissouma effort, while Vicario saved after Jesus got on a Saka cross. Nketiah couldnt finish from a loose Destiny Udogie pass but Arsenal found their goal on 26 minutes when Romero deflected Saka's shot past Vicario. Jesus then shot over after stealing the ball from Maddison, but on 42 minutes Spurs were level. Maddison beat Saka out wide before playing Son in to finish. In the second half Arsenal took the lead again on 54 minutes when Saka scored from the spot following Romero's arm blocking a goal bound shot by White. Jorginho's first touches of the game then gifted the ball to Maddison, who played in Son to scored less than a minute after Arsenal had taken the lead. Son hit the side-netting while Havertz shot over as both sides looked for a winner but the derby ended level with a share of the spoils and both sides still sitting around the European places.

Result: Brighton 3-1 Bournemouth

Kerkez OG, Mitoma x2 - Solanke

Brighton made a slow start here as Bournemouth showed excellent play to close down the home sides passing options. On 25 minutes Verbruggen's clearance was charged down by Christie, allowing Solanke to chip the ball into the goal. Brighton struggled and failed to touch the ball in the opponents box until 44 minutes. Soon after they were level, when Dunk and Webster saw efforts cleared off the line. Gilmour crossed back in and Kerkez glanced the ball past his own keeper. Mitoma and Fati came on at the break, and Fati linked with Dahoud before setting up Mitoma to score in the 46th minute. Dunk headed wide and Fati failed to scored from a Adingra cross as Brighton began to take control. In the 77th minute Mitoma was on hand to get his second and ensure the victory as he scored from an Estupinan cross. Solanke had an effort cleared off the line late on but there was no way back for the Cherries, who are without a win in ten games. As for Brighton, they have shown the European hangover should not be an issue for them. 

Predicted: Chelsea 1-2 Aston Villa

Result: Chelsea 0-1 Aston Villa

Watkins

Chelsea started brightly at Stamford Bridge, with Caicedo testing Martinez from range early on. Douglas Luiz saw a corner cleared into Digne's path, but Sanchez managed to save. Jackson was found by Mudryk for Chelsea, but his chipped effort was easily saved by the Argentine goalkeeper. Fernandez then wasted a chance before Zaniolo saw a header tipped over for Villa. Disasi was a yard offside when he scored after the break, while Sterling saw an effort saved before Jackson nodded wide at the back post. Gusto caught Digne with a bad challenge to get his marching orders on 58 minutes, and from there Villa looked the most dangerous. In the 73rd minute it was Watkins who fired home from the tightest of angles following a Diaby breakaway. All in all it was another disappointing result for Pochettino who is struggling to get this side working with just one win in their last ten league games. As for Villa, they bounced back from their Europa Conference League defeat to get another valuable three points in their push to remain in Europe next season.

Predicted: Liverpool 3-1 West Ham

Result: Liverpool 3-1 West Ham

Salah, Nunez, Jota - Bowen

West Ham started bright here, with Soucek and Antonio wasted good chances early on. Salah was immense for Liverpool, winning a foul from Aguerd in the area before dispatching his penalty with venom in the 16th minute. It was Salah's 12th goal involvement at home in a row, but West Ham remained very much in the game. In the 42nd minute Bowen was on hand to convert Coufal's cross and send the sides in level after Jones had an effort ruled out for offside before the break. In the second period Nunez fired wide while Bowen wasted a chance from a corner. On the hour mark Mac Allister picked a lovely ball over the top for Nunez to finish into the far corner of the net on the volley. Paqueta provided a real threat for West Ham but it was on 85 minutes that Liverpool killed the game. Van Dijk won the initial header from a corner and Jota was on hand to force the ball in. While Liverpool were not convincing, they maintained their unbeaten start to the season and have won their last five in the league. As for West Ham, they will know it was always a tough ask at Anfield but can be proud of their efforts.

Predicted: Sheffield United 0-3 Newcastle

Result: Sheffield United 0-8 Newcastle

Longstaff, Burn, Botman, Wilson, Gordon, Almirón, Guimarães, Isak

Newcastle ran riot to ensure Sheffield United lost by their biggest ever margin at Bramell Lane. The Blades started brightly, but all was undone on 21 minutes when Gordon kept the ball alive and Longstaff was on hand to finish the cut back. Ten minutes later Burn was on hand to score from a corner, while Trippier crossed for Botman to score his first Newcastle goal on 35 minutes. The second half continued in similar fashion, as on 56 minutes Wilson got onto a Trippier cross to score. On 61 minutes Gordon was found by Anderson to score from range. Newcastle were far from finished, and added their sixth on 68 minutes when Guimarães set up Almirón. On 73 minutes it was Guimarães who was on hand to score from a Longstaff shot, and to wrap up the game on 87 minutes Newcastle got their eight when Isak scored. It was a tough game for the Blades, and one wonder what it might do to their confidence. As for Newcastle, following their draw in Milan they are looking capable of pushing back up the table once more after 3 loses at the beginning of the season.

Table After Match Day 6

A look at the top half of the table and Manchester City continued their perfect start to lead the way, Liverpool remain two points behind on 16, with Brighton on 15 and Spurs on 14 making up the top four. Arsenal are in fifth on goal difference, with Villa sitting two points behind. West Ham sit below them on 10 points, with Newcastle and Manchester United a point behind. Crystal Palace make up the bottom half.

As for the bottom half, Sheffield United are bottom on a single points, level with Burnley and Luton. Bournemouth are just outside the relegation zone on 3 points, with Woles and Everton above them on 4. Chelsea remain in fourteenth on 5 points, with Brentford a point ahead. Above them on 7 points are Nottingham Forest, with Fulham making up the bottom half on 8 points.
