Ranking of Bitcoin trading volumes

To report it is cointelegraph, in an article that takes data from crystalblockchain (an analysis site well known in the community); the US is no longer the country that handles the most bitcoins over the year, the last time such a thing happened was 2013.

The new record, therefore, goes to the Seychelles, if only for the BitMEX headquarters (among the main cryptocurrency exchanges in the world), which have handled more than 10 billion dollars in bitcoin during 2019; in second place, instead, is Singapore square, an Asian city-state that during 2019 has handled something like 8.58 billion dollars, detaching the USA (third on the podium) by well 1 billion dollars.

Obviously this type of statistics are attributable to the main offices of the main exchanges, so this type of data must push us to reflect on the centrality of the United States in the cryptocurrency market, a centrality that seems to be destined to be undermined by the rise of the Asian squares in the hierarchies , as evidenced by the excellent performance of Singapore.

Going to tinker a bit on crystalblockchain, then, we get another interesting one since we did not expect and that concerns us directly; looking at the global map published by the site, in fact, the first thing we notice is that if we consider the flow of money in continent Europe, keeping UK and Switzerland out, Italy is the third country in the eurozone for bitcoin volumes traded in 2019 , with something like 23.47 million dollars, immediately after the Netherlands (294 million dollars) and Austria (which instead exchanged 115 million dollars in bitcoin).

Italy (I am Italian for this reason I mention it first, even if it is not ..) is still in fifth position after the UK (3 billion dollars), Holland, Austria and Switzerland (24.85 million dollars).

As for the global dimension, another surprise comes to us from Latin America, where Venezuela (as we would have expected) is not on the podium of the countries that have exchanged the most bitcoins, but we have Argentina instead (448mn of dollars), Brazil ($ 31m) and Chile (less than $ 1m).

No surprise comes from Africa, where Nigeria is confirmed as the reference country for the continent (but this applies in general, not only for bitcoin volumes), while the large volumes moved by India are surprising despite a not exactly friendly government in the comparisons of crypto.
