Nike invents the blockchain shoe, tokenising footwear on an ethereum platform counteracts counterfeiting

When we talk about tennis shoes the first name that comes to mind is definitely Nike; the company has established itself over the years for the quality of its products and for the technological boost given to the sector, so it could not miss the tempting opportunity to exploit the blockchain in its sales processes. Therefore, yesterday, Nike patented the first tokenized shoes on blockchain, they are called CryptoKicks and will allow the company and customers to protect themselves from counterfeiting. The operation is very simple, an ethereum token is attached to each shoe, which not only guarantees the authenticity of the product but also allows it to be purchased; on the patent, filed this week, it can be read that:

“A user can purchase a new pair of highly sought-after sneakers from a verified supplier who can provide information on where the shoes come from. After receiving the box containing the sneakers, the user will scan the QR code on the package through a smartphone app to verify its authenticity. "

What happens, in practice, is that when a customer buys a pair of shoes whose authenticity has been verified, a digital representation of the shoe itself is generated which is then in turn connected to the identity of the buyer, all assigning a token; in this way the union between digital shoe and token generates a CryptoKick, in practice a virtual (or digital) shoe, whose property is transferred to the customer together with the physical good. As a general rule, according to various sources, customers could therefore start collecting digital goods, selecting some precise characteristics of the shoe and proceeding with the actual purchase at a later time; it will also have a not insignificant impact on collectors, who could collect both physical shoes and their digital alter ego.
