France: steals 182 bitcoins from the company that fired him, but..

Usually when we talk about cryptocurrency thefts it is always quite disturbing news, which we try to exploit to reiterate some elementary principles of security; however, this is not the case with this news which, on the contrary, arouses a certain hilarity.

What happened? Simple: a French startup, active in the cryptocurrency industry, with a view to a corporate reorganization has made a profound cleansing of some of its executives, among them also the one who would later defraud her for revenge.

The company, of course, has not bothered to manage it with a minimum of intelligence and so the diatribes on the strategy to be adopted have become a profound rupture that has led to numerous layoffs, also these managed in an evidently rude way, given this which happened immediately afterwards.

Obviously when executives are fired, even more attention and tact are needed than common sense and correctness towards a worker already usually impose, precisely for the protection of the company, given that an executive is in possession of numerous information that can harm in various so; a precautionary principle that the company in question evidently did not consider necessary, ignoring it beautifully.

If this were not enough, the startup did not even consider it necessary to review its internal security processes, which is why the fired manager, in order to wash the shame of the humiliation suffered, thought it well to plunder the company wallets; if the startup did not demonstrate intelligence, however, the manager himself was even less intelligent, knowing the company organization, he thought it well to subtract small sums, modest enough not to immediately trigger the controls and thus arriving at subtract the beauty of 182 bitcoins.

This way of operating, however, also represented a concrete clue that put the police on the trail of the thief, it seemed immediately evident that the theft must have been committed by an insider and, given the past, it was not difficult to identify the officer who is now under arrest on charges of theft, money laundering and fraudulent access to data processing systems, as reported by Le Parisien in an article dated December 28 last.

Theft, for a total value exceeding one million dollars, is the third largest in the history of France, obviously with regard to cryptocurrencies; in short, it would have been more convenient for the former executive to subtract the entire amount in a single solution, with a minimum of precautions he would probably have been able to get away with it, trying to evade internal controls, however, has put investigators on his trail.

After all, even if subtracted a little at a time, a shortage of 182 bitcoins from the company's accounts could hardly have gone unnoticed forever; as if this were not enough, the former executive has not even managed to conceal the stolen funds that have been recovered in large part by the authorities and will soon be returned to the company to which they were stolen.

A story that has a comedian for the level of incompetence that reveals in all the parties involved, the only ones who came out making a good impression were the French forces investigating cybercrimes, who demonstrated their ability to do their job and also quite well.
