The project is not new, already a long time ago a collaboration started with the University of La Sapienza of Rome for the realization of a blockchain that registered the copyright in Italy on behalf of the SIAE, despite however the business consulting of Blockchain Core the project must have encountered important difficulties because now we discover that the SIAE has decided to turn to Algorand to develop its platform. The choice of Algorand has probably been dictated by the fact that this blockchain guarantees a high scalability thanks to the POS consent protocol, a fundamental characteristic for how the SIAE platform will have to work which will not only keep track of the subjects that enjoy the copyright but also make payments for artists. In any case, Gaetano Blandini, general director of SIAE, intervened to explain what the objectives of this project are and stated that:

“Through collaboration with Algorand we intend to explore the opportunities offered by technology, imagine a future of solutions that guarantee greater efficiency and transparency to our members; this partnership is intended as part of a process of synergy and cooperation with the main players in the research and innovation sectors, both nationally and on a global scale. Together we continue to write a story that began 137 years ago and that today embraces the future "

The partnership was also attended by Silvio Micali, founder of Algorand and one of the most brilliant Italian computer scientists; Micali, in fact, is a professor at the Laboratory of Informatics and Artificial Intelligence (CSAIL) of MIT in Boston, called to be part of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States in 2007 and winner of the Turing award in 2012 is commonly considered one of the leading global cryptography experts and member of the IACR (International Association for Cryptologic Research). Micali, intervened on the partnership between his Algorand and the SIAE, affirming that this collaboration opens the way to more inclusive and transparent economic models; in short, even if things slowly start to move in Italy, we can only hope that on the basis of projects like the one strongly supported by SIAE, the foundations can be created for the birth of a real blockchain industry also in Italy .
