Core Report Team

The team behind FTT and the FTX exchange are some of the most prominent and largest derivatives and crypto traders, with CEO Sam-Bankman Fried (SBF) hailing from Jane Street Capital, where he worked from 2014-2017. He graduated from MIT in 2014 with a degree in physics. SBF’s Twitter is @SBF_FTX

In 2019, SBF was seeking a crypto futures exchange that was institutional-grade in liquidity, product offerings, and service, and he instead chose to create FTX to solve the market need. FTX is headquartered in Nassau, Bahamas. The company FTX Trading LTD is incorporated in Antigua and Barbuda.

Greater Team

  • Gary Wang is the Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer at FTX as well as the CTO at Alameda Research. Previously, Gary worked as a software engineer with experience at Google. He graduated from MIT with a degree in Mathematics with Computer Science.
  • Nishad Singh is the Director of Engineering at FTX. He was Director of Engineering at Alameda Research from December 2017- April 2019. He was a Software Engineer at Facebook from August 2017- December 2017, where he worked on applied machine learning.   • Dan Friedberg is the Regulatory Officer at FTX and former General Counsel. He was a partner at Fenwick & West LLP, where he led the cryptocurrency practice. He was also the chair of the Payment Systems group. He has his J.D. and MBA from the University of Wisconsin, where he graduated with Cum Laude honors in 1996. He also graduated from Williams College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Economy with the highest honors.
  • Can Sun is the General Counsel at FTX. He was Co-Chair of the Blockchain practice group at Fenwick & West LLP. He has his J.D. from Yale Law school. He also had a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Princeton University and a B.A.Sc in Engineering Science from the University of Toronto.
  • Constance Wang is the COO at FTX and Co-Chief Executive Officer at FTX HQ in the Bahamas. She worked on risk controls at Credit Suisse. Then joined Huobi Global to expand their institutional business in the APAC region. She graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2016 with a degree in Finance.

Alameda Research 

Alameda Research is a quantitative cryptocurrency trading firm that uses internally-developed technology and deep crypto expertise to trade thousands of digital asset products and their derivatives. Alameda has always been a critical player in the crypto secondary markets and maintains strong connections with top exchanges, trading firms, and OTC desks. FTX has also announced a strategic partnership with Binance, one of the most well-known exchanges in crypto. 

Alameda also provides market-making services across top crypto exchanges with tight liquidity and responsive service. Since FTX was incubated by Alameda, FTX has had industry-leading order books from inception.

Investors

FTX raised $1.7 Billion in funding over 7 rounds, with 7 lead investors and 47 total investors. The latest funding was raised on March 21st, 2022, from an undisclosed round. Naomi Osaka was the lead investor. On January 14th, 2022, FTX raised $2 billion from Venture Capital FundTom Loverro is an investor.

FTX  completed a Series C funding round on January 31st, 2022. It raised $400 million from 12 investors and five partner investors.

Announced October 21st, 2021, and raised $420.7 million from 16 investors and 8 partner investors.

The July 20th, 2021 Series B round raised $900 million from 26 investors and 4 partner investors. This was the largest raise of funds for a crypto exchange ever.  Some of the prominent investors were:

The was also a Series B round on March 2nd, 2020, but no details are available. A Corporate Round was on December 20th, 2019. A Seed Round was on August 6th, 2019, and raised $8 million.
