There was a time when crypto faucets were the main distribution centres, which helped a lot in crypto adoption in the early stages of the crypto. In heavenly times, you could been claimed 9 BTCs in single faucet claim! But let the past be the past, a lot has been changed in the crypto space since then and so the design and the business processes of the faucets as well. In this article, we will see some of the important points or say the generalised problems by many of the current faucets.
[Note: The main purpose of this article is that to evaluate the crypto faucets in future, based on the listed metrics and rate them. And also while including affiliate links of any faucets, these ratings will be tagged along!]
The Changing Purpose of Crypto Faucets
There are some common problems with the crypto faucets, well a lot of things has been changed in the crypto space so the structure and the purpose of the crypto faucets has been changed a lot. Previously, the only purpose of the crypto faucets is to distribute the coins and the only expectation in return is to generate the awareness and drive the adoption of particular coin.
But now, the purpose has been changed a lot, from the awareness and adoption, crypto faucets turned to the revenue-based models, some chose to integrate sports betting, casino games and other things while some chose the traditional PTC models (Paid to Click), where users claim by visiting the websites that being advertised.
Well, there is absolutely nothing wrong in changing as per the market and generating revenue but there are some of the problems which are actually ‘problem’ when some platforms advertise as a faucet but are actually driving traffic in the name of faucet and engaging users in other stuff!
The Structural Problems in Current Crypto Faucets
Now we have seen that the changing purpose of the crypto faucets, let’s look at some of the main problems in the current crypto faucet.
1. Periodic Claims
Currently, most of the crypto faucets provides the periodic claims, such as claiming crypto once an hour. This thing makes it hard and realistically impossible to claim more than 3-4 times in a day, which is also a very hard task to do so!
2. Minimum Withdraw Amount
Consider earning sats in single digit for every claim and minimum withdraw set at five digits! Some of the faucets do this intentionally so that the user could not reach to the minimum withdrawal amount. In such cases, most of the users left the faucets without even withdrawing their crypto earned.
3. Lack of Withdrawal Methods
Now, we are living in the age of multi-chains! A single coin like Bitcoin is available on multiple chains apart from the main chain such as Matic, Solana and many others which costs very less transaction fees compared to the original Bitcoin blockchain. Having multiple withdrawal methods can help users to withdraw their coins easily and with less transaction fees which helps faucets to keep the minimum withdrawals low as well!
4. Multiple Options than Faucet
Well I cannot say having multiple other options like casino games, betting, and many other options available in the crypto faucets. But the actual problem is that having a high maximum withdrawal amount and comparatively very low claims, and at the same time offering a gambling opportunity like ‘win big or lose all’, then I see it as a problem. In this case, the users are only getting used as a traffic, the only intension is to bring huge traffic and increase the ad-revenue for the faucets.
But if the faucet has the easy withdrawal options and then have all these options then definitely that’s a good thing!
5. Security
Most of the known faucets are secure but some of them which have adopted the PTC revenue model, needs to be more secure. It is important for such faucets to have a security check whether the link that is being advertised is not malicious and safe for the users to browse. Although, it is taken care by most of the established crypto faucets, but when it comes to security even a small patch needs to be fixed and also users needs to be aware about the risks!
Conclusion
We briefly saw the shift of crypto faucets from adoption model to the revenue model. And listed five main problems in the current crypto faucets. Indeed, it is a crazy ride for the faucets as well and it is amazing to see how some of the faucets transformed themselves from a simple crypto faucet to a complex all-in-one crypto faucets!
