Hellow everyone ! I hope you have a great week so far, in this article I’m going to cover the mainnet launch of Sei and the airdrop that followed.

Sei Mainnet

On August 15th, Sei Network was officially launched on more than 10 platforms such as Binance and Bybit.

The airdrop was officially announced by the Sei Foundation in a tweet :

Launched at around $0.06, SEI’s price quickly skyrocketed to reach nearly $0.47, representing an increase of about 783%. However, the enthusiasm quickly diminish, causing SEI to stabilize around $0.15 :

Airdrop

2 airdrops were annonced, one for people that did not interact with SEI at all, they only have to bridge at least 500$ to be eligible (learn more here) and the other is for people who did the testnet missions and the people who took part in the atlantis reward program (learn more here) :

The airdrop directly encountered problems probably linked to the number of people wanting to claim their share.

This forced Sei to delay the airdrop :

Finally, one day after the Mainnet launch, the airdrop became accessible for those who were eligible on app.sei.io.

Airdrop Reaction

Many people were surprised by the amount of rewards, it ranged between 20–120 SEI (3$–17$) for people that have done testnet missions and some are ambassador program members. Even some people that did all the blocked tesnet missions got nothing !

So as you imagined, people started revolting on social media. On twitter the #SeiScam was trending after the airdrop :

People started questioning the conditions of the airdrop, because the team has not revealed the criteria for the airdrop.

Even some personality such as CryptoTelugu, who did an Ask Me Anything (AMA) with Phillip (in charge of the marketing of Sei) said that he was disappointed by the lack of communication of the SEI team :

Conclusion :

Sei has launch their Mainnet ! However there has been, and there still are backlash for their discutable airdrop. We will have to see in the future if this will impact Sei. The Sei Foundation has also confirm that there will be a round 2 of airdrop.
