Ethereum staking rewards after merge

By Cryptostfd | Crypto2022 | 28 Aug 2022

Ethereum 2 is merging with Ethereum 1. Once this happens, the two chains will be fully connected and allow both coins on both chains to be staked. From there on out, any transactions that happen on the chain will require some type of fee to prevent spam attacks. This fee is currently set at 0.1% per transaction in ETH1 and 0.04% in ETH2; however, a new variable called "ETH2 inflation reward" has been introduced in the calculator (and its default value). It’s important to note that this variable only affects PoS block proposers after the merge between ETH1 and ETH2 occurs; therefore, if you have a balance on either chain before then (or even if you don’t have an account), it will not affect your rewards post-merge

Eth2 staking rewards before the merge won't be affected.

You might be wondering, “Will staking rewards be affected by the merge?” In short: no. The Eth2 and Eth1 chains will remain as separate entities until their respective merge date in 2021. After that, they’ll come together as one network with all the same features—but at a lower cost to run your node!

After the merge, PoS block proposers will be able to claim Eth1 transactions (and transaction fees).

The staking rewards for Eth2 will be calculated based on the total amount of ETH1 staked in Eth2.

If you are still worried about how your balance will look after the merge, we recommend checking the validator calculator without the "ETH2 inflation reward" variable first.

It's important to note that the staking rewards for Eth1 and Eth2 will be different after the merge. That said, we hope this post has helped you understand how the staking system works in detail and what impact it will have on your account balance.
