Ten years, two stackers, a lifetime of memories and the ultimate anniversary bar...

Ten years ago, I was just another guy in the UK dropping some silver coin into my shoebox(I kept under the bed), completely hooked on that unmistakable high-pitch ring. Back in 2015, the British precious metals scene felt tiny. You couldn't just walk down the street and find someone who understood why you’d spend hard-earned cash on physical bars instead of digital stocks. That isolation is exactly how I crossed paths with a fellow Brit online known as @backyardbullion. We were just two guys starting out around the same time, bouncing questions off each other, sharing research, and trying to navigate the stacking world. Looking back, I had no idea that a casual internet friendship would anchor a decade-long journey.

To me, being a "silver stacker" isn't about getting rich quick; it’s a mindset built on patience and absolute discipline. There is a raw, grounding security in holding physical wealth in your hands that digital numbers on a screen just can’t replicate. Over the last ten years, my own stacking journey has been pretty quiet and steady—just consistently adding weight to the vault, block by block. Every single ounce represents a choice to value tangible history and long-term security over impulse spending. It’s a quiet obsession, but one that reshapes how you look at money entirely.

The best part of this decade, hands down, hasn't been the metal—it’s been the community. That small, scattered group of UK collectors we started with has grown into a massive, vibrant global network. It is a unique corner of the internet where people actually look out for one another, share knowledge without gatekeeping, and celebrate each other's mail calls. Having a trusted peer to talk shop with makes the hobby what it is. You start for the metal, but you stay because of the people who share the exact same passion.

While my own stacking remained fairly standard, watching my mate’s journey over the last ten years has been unreal. @backyardbullion didn’t just stay a collector; he turned into one of the most respected hand-poured silver makers in the world. His signature 1oz poured bars became legendary in the community for their rugged, unique character. Watching a friend build BYB from the ground up—going from melting metal as a hobbyist to gaining global recognition right from the UK—has been one of the coolest things to witness as a collector.

This week, the postman's knock hit different. I finally unboxed the new 2026 BYB 1oz silver bar, complete with its special 10-year anniversary stamp, as well as my unique holders number: No 11. finally holding it is incredibly surreal. It is a glittering, heavy piece of history that takes me straight back to 2015/16 when we were both just figuring things out. This bar isn't just another ounce of bullion to throw into the safe. It is a monument to a ten-year friendship, a celebration of how far BYB has come, and a reminder of why I fell in love with stacking in the first place. Here’s to the first decade, and the next one to come.
