Whale

The term "whale" is used to describe investors or organizations that holds an uncommonly large amount of a particular cryptocurrency. Thus, whales own enough funds to manipulate the market by cause a significant impact on the price, by selling or buying large amounts.

There is no exact threshold to fit into this definition, but in terms of bitcoin a whale should hold at least 1000 BTC.

According to an article released in the year 2020 on cryptounit.com the top 10 Bitcoin whales in the world are:

  • Satoshi Nakomoto

  • Federal Investigation Bureau (FBI)

  • The Winklevoss Twins

  • Micree Zhan

  • Jihan Wu

  • Charlie Sherem

  • Tim Draper

  • Barry Silbert

  • Huobi

  • North Korean Regime
