About Bitcoin Halving
Bitcoin Halving is pre-set BTC protocol that controls the mining by reducing reward by half, and simplifies the supply and demand to maintain the BTC market price. The Bitcoin halving cycle occurs on a schedule every 210,000 blocks.
HISTORY OF BTC HALVING
Bitcoin mining initially started on the Genesis Block on January 9, 2009 with a 50 BTC Block Reward.
- The first halving occurred at Block 210,000 on November 28, 2012, and the mining reward was decreased to 25 BTC per block.
- The second halving occurred at Block 420,000 on July 9, 2016, and the mining reward was decreased to 12.5 BTC per block.
- The third halving occurred at Block 630,000 on May 11, 2020, and the mining reward was decreased to 6.25 BTC per block.
READY FOR THE FOURTH HALVING
- Time - Bitcoin is about to reach its fourth halving cycle at Block 840,000. The estimated time of the fourth halving is third week of April 2024.
- Effect - After halving, the Block Reward will reduce to 3.125 BTC per block. As the time for the halving draws near, miners are increasingly trying to mine enough before the reward halving.
