Ethereum ETFs Showed $10 Billion Fast, But It Was not All New Money

By Parity | Crypto Outlook | 2 hours ago

So this headline made rounds this week spot Ethereum ETFs in the US looked like they opened trading with over $10 billion already sitting inside them. Therefore, Sounds crazy right? Like every big fund on Wall Street rushed in on day one. But when people actually looked at the filing data, the story is a bit less dramatic. Here is the thing. These ETFs did not start from zero. Consequently, They already had money in them from before, going back to when they first launched. For example, iShares' Ethereum ETF (ETHA) had about $3.57 billion in ether sitting in it at the end of 2024. Moreover, Fast forward to end of 2025, that same fund shows just over $10.3 billion in ether holdings. Additionally, So a big chunk of that "$10 billion in hours" number is not new cash flooding in overnight. It is the value of ether that was already parked there, plus price gains on ETH itself, plus deposits that built up slowly over many months, not one single day. Nonetheless, Basically what happened is people saw a big number and assumed "wow, huge new institutional buying wave just happened." But filings show it is more like old money plus price appreciation plus gradual accumulation, all showing up together and looking like a sudden spike. This is a good reminder for all of us in crypto. Big headline numbers can look super exciting, but always check where the number actually comes from before getting hyped. ETF flow data and NAV (net asset value) numbers can be confusing if you do not dig into the filings. Not saying ETF demand for ETH is fake, there has been real steady inflow over time. Just saying, do not take one flashy number at face value. What do you think, is ETF money the real driver of ETH price or is it something else? Drop your thoughts below.
