Knight Story - Crypto Idle Clicker


Knight Story (KS) is an idle clicker game from the Korean company  Biscuit. This is their second game after their debut with EOS Knights, which shares a lot of similarities with KS. In fact, they are using exactly the same textures, with small tweaks to the gameplay. KS has two versions marketed at Ethereum and Tron users. I have only played the Ethereum version, but they're mostly the same.

In KS you control a team of 3 knights (Eva, Tristan and Han for the ETH version, and Terry, Robin and Xavier for TRX) that fight against relentless hordes of monsters. You start with just one knight and no armor or weapons, and as you progress the other two knights join. Weapons and armor are crafted from materials which you can collect while your knights fight the mobs on their own.

The craft mechanics in this games are similar to 'Merge' games in which you need to join three items to create a better one. In this case, you need three materials to get a superior one, and there's a chance that this process will fail and you will lose the materials. As you get rarer materials the chance of success becomes slimer, going as low as 10%.

Weapons, armor, jewelry and pets - all things knights can equip - also use a similar merge mechanic. In this case, items of a certain level need a certain number of items to be merged with them before they can be upgraded. Magic water, the game main currency, is also required for merging this items. All but the pets have a chance of failing, although in this case you won't lose them, just the water. You will notice water is very hard to come by in the quantities you need, so use it sparingly!

The biggest change from EOS Knights is the appearance of the village, which you unlock at level 8. In the village you can create buildings using materials. The buildings can also be upgraded by joining 3 identical ones, but unlike the material upgrading this process has a 100% chance of succeeding. Buildings have different functions such as improving your knights stats, giving off materials every few hours, and more.

The main game offers 3 different environments - Day, Night and Abyss - with 6 different scenarios each. You start in 'Day' and unlock the other two when you beat all the scenarios in the previous one. In addition to this, there are periodical 'Boss' events where you need to fight a powerful boss to earn magic water and boss materials, which are used to build special buildings in the village. Players can help others beat their boss, and the community really shines when a boss appears as everyone asks for and gives help in the chat.

Knight Story is only PvE at the moment, although the developers hinted at a PvP feature some weeks ago.

Since this is a crypto game, there are some objects that can be exported to a public chain and sold in marketplaces such as OpenSea. Right now only armor, weapons and jewelry can, while pets and materials are ingame-only. You need a 'MyKI' ticket which can be obtained via an in-app purchase using fiat money. In addition, the game offers in-app purchases through which you can buy Red Beans, another ingame currency used purchase pets, magic water and a few other things.

All in all, this is a great game and a breath of fresh air in the crypto gaming world. Unlike most crypto games, which don't really care about the interface and focus on speculative economies, this game is more akin to your everyday mobile game - simple, low effort but incredibly addictive. The market economy seems stable and prices are not high - the maximum I've seen is 1 or 2 ETH for a top-notch item, but otherwise you can find great items for under 0.01 ETH.
