I've been a big fan of the GlobalHive.io faucet for quite a while, thanks to it's slick interface and ease of picking up free daily crypto.

Since I signed up several weeks ago, it gave out Tezos. But yesterday, they made the transition to Zcash. At first I was bummed, since Tezos has always been a familiar name to the staking game. However, after a bit of research, I'm more than happy to continue collecting Zcash.

For several weeks, Tezos was the payout coin, but just yesterday this changed to Zcash. Here's a quick breakdown of why I'm equally stoked about adding this coin to my bag stash:

What is Zcash?

To put it simply, Zcash is very similar to Bitcoin (which it hard-forked from), except it encrypts all send/receive addresses. This gives both the transactor and transactee an additional layer of privacy.

For fans of other privacy coins like Dash and Monero, Zcash is right up your alley!

Zcash also has support from some very recognizeable names, including Edward Snowden:

Its advisory board also includes some A-List crypto veterans, such as Eric Voorhees, and Roger Ver.

For those comparing Zcash to the former payout coin Tezos, here are a few quick facts:

• Zcash has nearly 50% higher 24hr trading volume vs. Tezos
• Zcash has more than double the "likes" vs. Tezos on CoinGecko, signaling that it has a strong community behind it
• Both coins are in the top 30 in market cap (Zcash at #28, Tezos at #13)

Market cap comparison shows that Tezos has clearly taken off in recent years. Could this mean that Zcash is a more valuable coin to stack in 2020? We'll see...

Conclusion

If you're like me, you love opening up as many streams of free crypto as possible in these early days of blockchain adoption.

Plus, if you're also an Atomic Wallet user, you know that the exact type of crypto you're stacking isn't as critical as it used to be, thanks to the easy coin-swapping function that's built into the wallet.

Personally, while I do like Zcash, I ultimately plan on transferring my accumulated ZEC to BTC once I have a sizeable stack built up from consistent claiming from the Global Hive faucet.
