Hayden Adams, founder of Uniswap Labs, recently called Solana a better fit for DeFi in an X post, comparing Solana's layer-1 solutions to Ethereum's long-term commitment to the layer-2 ecosystem. So let's take a look:
Mixed opinions
Adams isn't the first, Solana's vertical scaling approach is considered a breeze in the Cryptoverse as it's fast, low-cost and a breeze for decentralized finance (DeFi) applications. This is one reason Solana has been dubbed the "Ethereum killer." Yet Solana's L1-based model faces challenges in decentralization due to validator centralization, so Ethereum, which has a decentralized ecosystem, is still more popular in the Cryptoverse.
Experts' opinion
Experts believe that Ethereum's L2-centric model, though more complex, offers long-term benefits. Solana's vertically integrated design is suitable for high-speed DeFi in the short term, while Ethereum's horizontally scaled, modular approach provides more flexibility and security for the future. On this basis, I think the choice may depend on the specific needs of users and developers.
My Point
Hayden Adams has outlined the likes and dislikes between the two ecosystems. Now I am not a developer, but I have found that Ethereum is still leading in activity and institutional trust, which is why online platforms related to the Cryptoverse (be it Wubits, or Publish0X) are giving more importance to Ethereum. Kinney has also not made SOL or Solana Chain a base of use/payment, nor does he have any plans to do so. So I think Ethereum is better.
