What is SparkCat?
SparkCat is a Chinese program identified by renowned cybersecurity firm Kaspersky Labs. SparkCat is considered stealing malware because it analyses images on hacked devices using optical character recognition (OCR), allowing hackers to extract passwords, wallet recovery keys, and steal valuables.
Kaspersky Found
According to Kaspersky Labs, SparkCat has infected application development kits in both the Google Play and Apple App Stores, in both legitimate and malicious apps. With almost 242,000 downloads, the malware is mostly targeting Android and iOS users in Europe and Asia. The message in Chinese suggests that it was created by a Chinese hacker.
My Point
I do not trust Kaspersky Labs; it is possible that Kaspersky is publicising this issue to boost sales. However, we cannot disregard any risk. Google and Apple are accountable for their users' security; they must also explain how they have planned for security and how they intend to implement it. I believe we should use different devices/gadgets for applications and assets.
