BBVA with Bitcoin and Ethereum
BBVA, the second-largest bank in Spain, has officially launched Bitcoin and Ethereum trading and custody services for retail customers through its mobile app. The service is fully developed in-house, reflecting BBVA’s commitment to digital innovation. Users can now independently buy, sell, and hold crypto assets within the BBVA app—without relying on any third-party platforms.
More Crypto to Come
BBVA’s entry into cryptocurrency services follows its earlier success in Switzerland with Bitcoin trading in 2021, and in Turkey with crypto offerings in 2023. The bank has announced plans to expand its range further by adding more crypto assets and tokenised financial products, enhancing its digital asset offerings for users.
My Point
This is irony of the age, while many governments and regulators are still debating bans or restrictions on crypto to save the banks, traditional banks themselves are becoming increasingly crypto-integrated—turning into exactly what they once resisted. This is just an example.
