Honestly, it's about time. I surely won't be missing it.
So pretty daunting headline? Well, it's true. Ethereum has long outlived its usefulness and nowadays is plagued with high gas fees and environmental concerns. It's about time we laid it to rest, and honestly, that's what we've been doing for the past couple years.
I don't think 2022 will be the year Ethereum dies out, but it's a tipping point. My prediction is that its usage will dial down slowly, along with it's value, and will likely be dead by 2025.
There have been dozens of "Ethereum killers" popping up in the crypto ecosystem for a couple years now, and several of them have been, and continue to be, viable. The only reason none of them have killed Ethereum yet is because of how deeply rooted Ethereum is into everything. The majority of NFTs are still on the Ethereum blockchain, and there are thousands of altcoins on Ethereum. So with that knowledge, how can we afford to let Ethereum die?
Well there's been lots of moves away from Ethereum already and I foresee many more to come. OpenSea now allows the usage of the Polygon network because of the high gas fees with Ethereum. There have been several altcoins moving away from Ethereum over to Binance Smart Chain and other alternatives. The stragglers will either have to switch as well or die out in obscurity with Ethereum.
All of this is why I only have less than $10 in Ethereum and will not buy more. It's crazy that $10 isn't even enough for gas for a single transaction, and it's things like this that are killing it.
