With every bull run and Bitcoin growing up, we have altcoin seasons that come in cycles. Coins that sit on various blockchains pump to astronomical heights - in some cases 1000% or even 10,000% those are considered high risk coins because a lot of scams pops up during that time and people gamble!

But what coins category can we expect to move next? I have had a look at Coingecko and Coinmarketcap and here is a shortlist of categories I know did well in the previous run and and some new that I have not seen before and I think could be something to look at!

1. DeFi (Decentralized Finance)/Yield Farming

Finance coins were big especially in the DeFi space! Yield farming coins were one of the best performing coins and talked about projects - "Yearn Finance" started it all!

2. Gaming/Metaverse/Play to Earn

Gaming/Metaverse was well talked about and promoted during 2020 run and some legit projects that were promoted turned to disgusting money grab scam they said anything so people put their money on the table but then they didn't deliver yes I am talking about Star Atlas mainly here! SA is an example to show no matter how beautiful the project looks like no mater how good the public team looks like they are not shy to use fraudulent practices to get your money! I consider this category to be the worst to invest in due to the amount of coins and the fact that you literally can't be sure about their promises/statements!   

3. Privacy Coins

Privacy coins did well in the previous run did well during some privacy troubles that were discussed on the news! 

4. Storage

Storage coins did have some success but not as much as other categories.

5. Environment

This seem to be a new category. I have not seen anyone talk about this type of projects during the 2020 run so this can be something for 2024 I see only about 6 coins there but if it picks up the number will increase to thousands - guaranteed! lol  

5. SociaFi

I consider this to be a new category there was some hype around SociaFi projects though but it wasn't really popular as few others on the list!

6. Gambling

Gambling coins did also very well in the previous runs but only once! 

7. NFTs

NFTs were the most talked and promoted group in the past runs celebrities promoting it and many marketplaces got build for that! It was the next big thing! and it was until it all died a lot of projects turned out to be scams, I see only a few projects that actually give utility to the NFTs they sold.

8. Music

I have not seen this category to pick up in the previous run maybe in this run it will pick up!

9. Jobs

This is also a new category I found on Coinmarketcap there are only a handful of projects listed I think this could be something! 

10. Meme coins

I left the meme coins for last as this is always the last thing to pump during bull run!

There you have it that's my list. Extensive research needs to be done in order to find the best projects for the best returns. But, I suppose your personal interests can filter a lot of this out if you are interested in finance for example you most probably won't be looking at SociaFi coins and vice versa, if you are interested in SociaFi coins Storage category is probably not your thing. So the best is just to research in your area of interest!
