If you are a US citizen, today is the day to vote. No pep talk here, if you don't vote, nothing much will change as you are mainly stuck with the decisions of the other people in the state you live in. They will probably make the decision you were hoping they would make, anyway.
If you have heard any talk about this being the end of the democracy if the vote doesn't go a certain way, fear not. We don't live in a democracy, we live in a representative republic. The death of this system will not come when people vote themselves free money and services, which is how democracies die, it will come when those we choose to represent us give us too much free stuff, while taking a large percentage for themselves. Don't get too concerned which party you think will do this, eventually they both will. It is the people's fault, we have short memories and just really don't care too much.
Just to make sure you don't think I am making this stuff up, in the 1920's the average spend per person in the United States by the federal government was around 200 dollars (that is in todays dollars, adjusted for inflation.) Today, with a 4 trillion dollar budget, that number is about 11,000 dollars per person. Now, if you think you don't get 11,000 worth of value from Uncle Sam, then someone else is getting your share.
