Most people on Publish0x are very interested in investment in crypto. Its a really interesting market segment that will likely lead to a lot of wealth generation. But I don't need to tell you that. One of the most important things an investor can do is diversify their portfolio to spread out risk from being to heavy in one market sector. If a sector, or an investment type goes into a bear market, if your well diversified it won't have a huge impact on your overall finances. One way to diversify is to own common stock in companies.
Among the benefits of owning common stock are:
- Possible increase in market price if the company performs well
- Voting rights in the companies annual meeting.
- Possibly recieving dividends if the stock pays them, and doesn't keep their cash for growth purposes
- Better hedge against inflation than investments with fixed interest rates
On the other hand, there are some disadvantages to common stock ownership including:
- Possible decline in market price
- Possible curtailment or elimination of dividends
- Receipt of dividends only after preferred stockholders
- Greater price fluctuation than with investments having a fixed interest rate
Although equity ownership returns vary with business cycles, stocks have shown over the years to be rewarding investments and good hedges against inflation. Diversification is never a bad thing. I don't recommend necessarily buying into the market right now, and picking stocks can be hard for the inexperienced. But I do recommend considering it.
