I've been playing the Rising Star music based card trading game on the hive block chain for around two weeks now.   It seems to have good prospects for earning, noting that you can play and earn with zero investment - which is pretty good. 

Quick summary of how it works:

 - You have 100 energy, and can use the energy to undertake musical 'missions', for example, illegal busking - which is the most basic task and the only one you can do when you first start

 - Missions provide a reward using the in-game currency starbits - you can trade these on hive for other currency, stake them in game to earn more, or buy cards with it to rank up

 - The cards are the game changer, and as your stats and levels get better you can take on better missions which give better starbits rewards

As a musician in real life, I find the game very entertaining and have been playing it daily.  It does not take up a lot of time, and you can leave it running in the background while you do other things on your computer.  You can also play it on your phone.

Because the cards are so important (you start with one very basic one), I've been saving and doing missions as hard as I can to get up to 10,000 starbits.  With 10,000 starbits you can buy a pack of 3 cards - which then up your stats to allow you to progress further.  I was doing pretty good and was up at about 6,000 starbits, when I got to level 15.  At level 15 the 'Ego' effect kicks in, which is pretty funny, because as a guitarist I can 100% confirm that ego is exactly what musicians get in real life, and like in the game, it can get in the way of your playing.  

In the game, your ego rating affects how much you can earn from missions - the higher it is, the less you earn - and accordingly my income dropped.  In the game you can counter your ego by taking music lessons.  Again I thought this was as funny as heck, because again its so true to real life - I've known guys that had learned 3 chords on guitar and were moving to LA to make it big (I'm not joking).  

So two weeks into the game, and I'm slowly getting towards the 10,000 starbits.  I'm currently at 9,184 and ego is kicking in and making the last 1,000 quite a journey.  I guess it will take another 2-3 days - but its no problem I'm enjoying the game.  I'm just really hoping that I get lucky when I buy the random cards - if not I'll be heart broken - well, maybe not quite that bad, but you know what I mean.

For info, I guess the big question is - is it worth it.  Well I'm a gamer anyway, but below is a screen shot from Hive showing the value of starbits - as you can see each one is worth $0.00022, so the amount I've made to date (9,184 starbits) is worth $2.02 (noting I'm writing this during the BTC dip - so it has been higher).  So as a newbie, the earning power is ok, and as I power up in the game, I'm expecting it to increase to the point where its well worth doing. 

Until I hit level 15, I was earning around 500 to 1,000 starbits per day ($0.10 to $0.20) - for not a lot of work.  I'll keep track of how that continues and report back in another post.

The other earning potential is in trading cards - there is an in-game marketplace, and cards seem to trade fairly well as there is quite an active community playing the game - as can easily be seen by the amount of posts on it that you can find on the hive blog. 

In Summary:

 - Rising Star is a great game - I really enjoy it, you can play and earn without investment,

 - I'm aiming to get to 10,000 starbits so I can invest in some cards and hopefully increase my stats and hence my earning potential,

 - I'm currently figuring out how to battle the ego problem effectively, 

 - I'm earning around $0.10 to $0.20 per day, but expecting that to grow, which is part of my low cost crypto accumulation strategy.
